I photographed many an affair (Wedding - Bar/Bat Mitzvah) at Temple Ramat Zion. I always looked forward to seeing MIchael, and he always had a smile and a joke for me. He also had sense of how strenuous a photographer's work can be, and went out of his way to make sure we were fed. I have nothing but great memories of Mike.

The Rawitch family also has known Michael since the early 1980s.He was part of all three of our b'nai mitzvah celebrations at Adat Ari El and my first grandchild's "welcome back to California" party, carved watermelon and all. I spoke with him every Spring as he prepared food for our extended family seder. What a joy to work with and to chat with about our pride in our children. He will be missed.

Michael and I "grew up" at Sinai Temple together when their family began there in the late 1960's. We later were colleagues at Adat Ari El and participated in each other's wedding celebrations. He welcomed our son, Josh in the world at his bris with regal display and culinary delights. More than all this , he was a mensch, a loving friend and family man. He will be missed for all the years that are to be.

Everyone should know this story about Michael. When I was he Director of Chaverim, the JFS social program for developmentally disabled adults, I went to lunch with Michael to ask if he could give us a deep discount on hors d'oeuvres and dessert for an afternoon fundraiser concert. He asked me what the program did, and at the end of the lunch, he said he would provide the food at no charge. He did that for 11 years and Mark told Gerry this year will be no different becuase "Michael would want it that way." Michael also provided a discount for the Chaverim sedar every year. One year I stood next to him, on the side, watching 7 developmentally disabled adults chanting the Four Questions. I whispered to him, "Michael, this is why I do this work." He whispered back, "This is also why I do this work." May your sweet soul rest in peace.

Such a shock! As college friends, Michael fell for my sorority sister, Cindy, when I was a Freshman. All these years later, I still see his smiling face and hear his voice saying the Greek alphabet backwards.(I also worked for him while going to CSUN) Cindy and the rest of the Cohen family, my heart goes out to you and KNOW that memory's of Michael will be cherished forever. Hugs!
