Samuel Allenberg Obituary

July 14, 1927 - May 16, 2015 Sam Allenberg peacefully left this world on Saturday May 16th, 2015 with his loving son and daughter by his side at his home in Los Angeles, CA. He was 87. Sam was born in Los Angeles to his parents Bertam (Bert) and Mildred (Polstein) Allenberg. Sam served his country in the US Navy in 1945-1946 and graduated from UCLA in 1950. In the fall of 1953 he met his beloved Sandra Enid Meltzer. Six short weeks later, on October 18th, 1950 they were married.. 61 years of love, laughter and mutual infatuation ensued. Sam and Sandra have two children, John (Ellen) and Mary (Tim) and two grandchildren, Ozzie (22) and Jack (20). Sam worked in the trucking industry prior to acquiring Hurst Labeling Systems, a company he owned and operated until his retirement in 1995. He loved to surf, ski, hike, and work on cars. Sam was a most unique and nonjudgmental soul. He wanted everyone to know that he "did it his way"; it was exactly Sam's unconventional approach to life that made him so unique. Loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and loyal friend, Sam will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd 11:30 am at Mt. Sinai Hollywood Hills and be followed by a reception at the family home. Memorial donations may be made in Sam's name to Jewish Free Loan.

I am sorry for your loss. Please know you are not alone in your grief. The God of all comfort is here for you as well. This promise is made at Psalms 55 : 22. If you pour your burden of grief on him and he will surely sustain you. I encourage you to do so if you already haven't. Please take care.

Sam was a part of my life since 1973. I held his hand a week before he jumped into the next plane. Adventurous, excited, curious, successful and committed parent are some terms that come to mind. I will miss you Sammy!

I WAS ONLY IN SAM'S COMPANY, A FEW A TIMES. HOWEVER IT WAS EASY TO SEE THAT HE WAS A MAN OF GREAT ENERGY,AND PURPOSE, WITH HIS LOVE OF SKIS AND CARS AND FAMILY. HE WILL BE MISSED! MARY'S MOTHER-IN-LAW.
