Stephen Ashley Obituary

ASHLEY, Stephen D. Entertainment Attorney; dies at 61 Stephen D. Ashley passed away on November 1, 2008. Ashley, as he was affectionately called by all but his mother, was born in Chicago on February 17, 1947, and died peacefully in his sleep. Ashley was a graduate of Harvard College and the Yale Law School, and graduated with honors from both institutions. While originally a member of the New York Bar, in 1975 he moved to California, residing in Venice for more than the last 20 years of his life, from where he was a highly successful music attorney. Ashley was instrumental in the careers of numerous groups, in various genres, and also represented numerous record labels, thus showing his ability to be on both sides of the table. He was known to be incredibly thorough and astute. He was the lawyer you wanted protecting your interests.
Ashley is survived by his parents Charles and Rosalind of Fullerton, California, his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Elisheba Ashley of Blacksburg, Virginia, his niece and nephew, Lisa and Daniel Ashley and the love of his life and his partner of the last twelve years Elizabeth Szlajmer. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday November 16, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Malinow & Silverman Mortuary, 7366 Osage Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045 (Westchester area) (800-710-7100). In lieu of flowers, the family advises they are in the process of setting up some form of scholarship and would ask that donations be made to such fund once it is initiated.
