The Board of Trustees and staff of The National Teachers Hall of Fame sends condolences to the family. Phil was a vital part of the Hall of Fame, and his leadership was so valuable. He will be missed by so many people here in Emporia as well as elsewhere. Prayers of comfort for Jan and the family.

Phil was a special friend and colleague here in Emporia, and we all have treasured memories of his leadership and his contagious smile. I am so saddened by his passing and will miss his wonderful Facebook postings of his travels and love for Jan. My heartfelt condolences are being sent to his family in this difficult time.

Phil has always been a very special person and friend. As a classmate from the 4th grade through school Phil and I shared times of hanging-out, ice skating on the family pond, playing table tennis in their basement, and later cruising Olney from the Dog and Suds to the Town Talk, and hunting together.
Phil always had high standards in life from schooling to career. He achieved all while being an exemplary Christian.
I'll always remember the fun, the laughter, and the friendship.
