PHENIX CITY, AL- Cephus Sumbry, Jr., 79, of Phenix City, AL passed away on November 24, 2011.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Noble D. Williams officiating.
Cephus Sumbry, Jr. was born on July 3, 1932 in Russell County, AL to the late Mr. Cephus Sumbry Sr. and Mrs. Eva Davis Sumbry Howard. He was preceded in death by his sister Mrs. Lillian Sumbry Jordan. He was a member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Providence Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Sumbry's Mortuary from 1-7 pm.
Mr. Sumbry was the owner of Sumbry Grocery Store and retired from Dolly Madison.
He leaves to mourn a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Julia Battle Sumbry; one daughter, Eva Sumbry Long (George), Chesapeake, VA, two sons, Reginald Sumbry (Elaine) and Cephus B. Sumbry (Marjorie), both of Columbus, GA. One sister, Rhodie Grant (Billie) and two brothers, David Sumbry (Josie) and Jimmie Sumbry. Eight grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
