Columbus, Georgia - Dea. Elijah J. Stewart, Jr. transitioned his life Friday, September 10, 2021 at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 12:00 noon at Hill-Watson Memorial Chapel at Rose Hill LLC, 2919 Hamilton Rd, Columbus, GA. Rev. Jesse Reese, Jr. will be officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Dea. Stewart was born on January 18, 1947 to the late Carrie Evans and Elijah Stewart, Sr. in Russell County, Alabama. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at New Providence Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Senior Usher, Trustee, Deacon as well as on the Finance Committee, Transportation and Benevolent Ministries. Dea. Stewart was a 1964 graduate of William H. Spencer High School. Afterwards, he joined the United States Navy. Mr. Stewart retired from Exxon/Mobile and Vulcan Materials Company where he served in a leadership position. Other than his parents, he was preceded by his sister, Mrs. Sallie B. David. Dea. Stewart leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Jessie M. Reese-Stewart; a sister, Betty (Frank) Boyd of Birmingham, Al; a niece, Sonya David of Columbus, GA; sisters-in-law, Violene Reese of Columbus, GA and Glenda (Kamyal) Reese of Syracuse, NY; brothers-in-law, Rev. Jesse (Alma) Reese,. Jr. of Phenix City, AL, Ronnie (Denise) Reese of Auburn, AL and Phillip (Antoinette) Reese of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
