Elinor Thompson Obituary

Elinor C. Thompson September 16, 1930- July 25, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA— Elinor C. Thompson, 74, died July 25 at her residence. There will be a gathering of family and friends Saturday, July 30 at 1525 W. Pine Lake Drive, Whitesville, Ga., between 5 and 7 p.m. Elinor was born Sept. 16, 1930 to the late Joe and Mary Cox of Providence, RI. She was Catholic by faith. She met Joseph N. Thompson who became her loving and devoted husband of 55 years where stationed in Boston while in the Navy. They moved to Cusseta, Ga., in 1951 then to Columbus in 1958, where they lived until 1990 when they moved to Englewood, Fla. They returned to this area in 2002 when Elinors Alzheimers progressed to the point that Joe needed family members support to care for his loving wife Elinor. She was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Cox. Survivors other than her husband include two sons, Joseph N. Thompson, Jr., of Newnan, Ga., and James C. Thompson of Pine Lake, Ga.; one daughter, Mary Elaine Smice and her husband, Leon Smice of Pine Lake, Ga.; one sister, Lillian Cone and her husband William Cone of Englewood, Fla.; her grandsons, Chris J. Wright, Joshua J. Thompson, M. Jason Thompson, and Joseph T. Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Alzheimers Association in Elinors memory.
