Cols., GA- Jonathan Dixon Wilson, 42, of Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Clark Standard and Mr. Kevin Stone officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home and also after the service on Sunday.
Mr. Wilson was born May 12, 1971 in Tulsa, OK, son of Maryann Brown Werner (Thomas) of Phenix City, AL, and Johnny Wilson (Gracie) of Columbus, GA. He played little league baseball and football throughout his childhood at Pioneer Little League. Jonathan was a member of the 4-H Program during his teenage years. He was elected President of the Columbus 4-H and later served as a District Officer. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and a 1996 graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Jonathan was an avid Bulldog fan and for years attended all Georgia football games until he became ill. Jonathan had a passion for Georgia football. He was able to remember and quote the scores and plays from every game. He was Georgia's number one fan. Jonathan was an entrepreneur and operated his own BBQ Catering Service in New Orleans, LA.
Survivors other than his parents include his wife, Sara Beth Leikin of New Orleans, LA; sister, Robin Thompson (John) of Macon, GA; nieces, Anna and Mary Ellen Thompson of Macon, GA, Baylee Calenberg of Villa Rica, GA; step-sister, Marcie Calenberg (Kerry) of Villa Rica, GA; father and mother-in-law, Marty and Jean Leikin of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law, Kate Mitchell (Thomas) of Sarasota, FL; nephew Jackson and niece Marin of Sarasota, FL, aunts, Tammy Echols (Terry), Sue Brown, Phyllis Bailey, Linda Furer (Bob), Becky Walters, and Rosemary Wilson ; uncles, Gary Dixon Brown (Jean), Greg Brown, Butch Wilson (Donna), Buck Wilson (Becky), and many cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Stewart Dixon Brown and Nellie Brown; paternal grandparents, Joe and Jean Wilson; uncles, Michael Stewart Brown, Corky Wilson, and Gib Bailey; cousin, Michael Preston Brown.
Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make memorial donations to the Georgia 4-H, www.georgia4h.org or the Special Olympics, www.specialolympics.org.

Good-Bye Bulldog, we had some times, to your Mom, Dad, who I got to meet on Fortin Street, and to Sara, I am sorry for your loss,last talked to Jonathon around Christmas, and though I knew he was ill, he always stayed on the sunnyside. MaryAnn,Johnny, Robyn,Sara, and families, my heart is totally broken. I just spoke with Jonathan a week ago and he never told me how ill he was. While I know that was his way, I wish I had known. I want you all to know what a difference he made in my life and how very, very much I loved him. He will always be my 4-H'er and one of my best friends in the entire world. I will forever miss his sense of humor, his love of the Dogs, his incessant teasing and how much I know he loved me as well. I will always treasure the gift of having him in my life. Unfortunately I cannot be there Sunday and I am grieving over that as well. I am going to work on establishing a 4-H scholarship in his memory. We were lucky to have met Jonathan at a UGA-UK football game years ago. What a great guy! He sure loved those dawgs and his enthusiasm was contagious. He was a joy to be around. He will be missed greatly by all his dawg friends as well as the countless other friends he made wherever he went.

Jonathan "Sprout" Wilson will forever be in my heart and memories. As part of my pack in High school and College, I will never forget the good times we had and the crazy times that went along with being friends with Jonathan. I will never forget that awful smell of the daily "Steverinos Sweaty Sock Sub Sandwich" that he would order and that wonderful grin and laugh as I would tease him about it in Athens. I will never forget that laugh and the fact that he would tell me a joke every time he called me. It is so hard to say goodbye to one of my few life long friends. Rest in peace brother and know that I will always love you.

Jonathan, I remember you as an avid UGA bulldawg fan and a great cook and friend. I remember how you knew I loved Charleston and when you were there, you would call and read your menu to me. You left us too soon, Jonathan, but we will not forget you.

Have known Jonathan also since 5th grade. Lost contact for many years only to reconnect through FB recently. He brought may laughs to many friends/strangers through out our 4-H careers. Still remember his "Here's Johnny!" routine. Glad to have known him, sad to have to say good bye. May peace be with your family.

Jonathan was my milk cottage partner during our 1st year together at Rock Eagle as counselors. I'll always remember running like crazy to make to the farthest cottage, Jonathan's love for the kids and for helping others.
Although we didn't regularly keep in touch he will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Ellis and I shared Jonathan's love of the Georgia DAWGS. We have tailgated with him in Athens and traveled many roads to away games with him as well. We will always hold dear the memories of sharing those Bulldawg weekends with him. Jonathan was quick with a smile, was full of jokes and was always willing to help out a friend. He was a special young man. We are thankful for his laughter, his kindness, his thoughtfulness and his friendship. He was one of a kind, and we will miss him. Love and prayers to all his family.

Like many people, I got to know Jonathan through 4-H. We kept in touch ever since. While we did not speak all the time, I always knew he was just a phone call away. He was a dear and loyal friend. He loved to laugh (and dance) and was happiest when he was entertaining others. He will truly be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family

Jonathan and I knew each other through 4-H since 5th grade! From DPA, District Officer activities and serving as Rock Eagle counselors together, Jonathan and I always had a good time together. I am sorry to see him pass away at such a young age. I pray for all of you during this difficult time. I know he will be missed by many. He will always be remembered fondly by his 4-H friends.

It is the mark of an amazing person that after 20 years of not seeing them, you still remember them like it was yesterday. Jonathan was special. He's one of those rare people who "sparkle" in this world. My family's prayers for comfort during your grief and gratefulness for all of the wonderful memories he made during his life. He touched thousands of people with his light. So many 4-H events we were at and he was always smiling and happy. Grateful to have had him make a brief presence in my life.
