Abra Lee Granger

Abra Lee Granger was born April 27, 1989 in Ojai, CA where she grew up and attended Nordhoff High School. She finished her first two years of school at Ventura College and moved to Santa Cruz after her acceptance in the Psychology baccalaureate program at UC Santa Cruz. Excelling in her studies, Abra graduated with her Bachelors in Psychology and minor in Anthropology, with Honors in the Major, University Honors, and Kresge College Honors in June 2013.

Upon graduation from UCSC, Abra moved to San Jose with her boyfriend Christopher Bahue and was hired as Regional Account Manager for a holistic medical company in San Jose. She was promoted to Senior Regional Manager within four months thanks to her hard work and talents developing relationships with clients.

Filled with compassion and genuine interest in others, Abra made friends easily and left a positive and lasting impression on many over the course of her short life. She was dedicated to helping others, as displayed in her work assisting disabled adults as a personal care attendant in Ventura, CA, and in her volunteer work at Friends Outside, helping provide advice and services to clients with loved ones in the criminal justice system. She was driven to continue her career in psychology, and was preparing to continue her studies in graduate school.

Abra was an energetic person: she loved being outdoors, hiking and taking her dog Panda to the beach, as well as spending time with friends and family. Many will remember Abra for her calm presence and also her stubborn and steadfast nature. Abra was an avid reader, and immersed herself into both novels and non-fiction texts from school. She was always engaged in and excited by her coursework in psychology and anthropology, often sharing her knowledge with close friends and family. Her calm presence and gentle spirit will be forever remembered by her loved ones.

Abra passed away surrounded by her family on March 21, 2014, at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, after a short but hard-fought battle with a rare form of brain cancer. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Ivy and Mildred Hurt of Ojai. She is survived by her boyfriend Christopher Bahue, of San Jose, her mother Ruth Hurt-Granger, sister Jessica Granger, brother Ivan Granger, sister Samantha Showers, nephew Adam Granger and neice Rylee Granger all of Ojai. She is also survived by sister Kelsey Campbell of Ventura, Father Douglas Bangs of Reno, NV, paternal grandparents Donald and Lela Bangs of Ontario, OR, close friend Samantha Baker of Chicago, IL, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Abra's life will be celebrated on Friday 3/28/2014, with a 10am viewing at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary 738 E Santa Paula St, Santa Paula. The service will be held at 12pm at Pierce Brothers Cemetery in Santa Paula, followed by a reception at First Baptist Church of Ojai, 930 Grand Ave in Ojai.
