NEW BERLIN, IL - Alan S. Cohen, 62, of New Berlin, died at 11:16 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at his residence.

He was born April 24, 1952, in Springfield, to Harry and Anne Rubin Cohen. He married Tammy DeVarose-Harris on April 25, 2009, and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Cohen-Deihl of Tampa, Fla.; three stepchildren: Jason (Sadie) Harris of Lincoln, Ill., Amanda (fiancé, Thomas Angelo) Harris of Chapin and Kasondra Harris-Gleason of Springfield; three grandchildren: Makenzie, Jakob and Lilyann; one sister, Pam (Myles) Hirsch of Los Angeles, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews, including Heather and Nicole of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Alan was an avid Illini fan (especially basketball). He had season tickets for over 32 years. He was also a Cubs and Blackhawks fan. He greatly enjoyed spending time with co-workers and family. He was employed by the Illinois Secretary of State office for 38 years.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Carson, Becky Day, RN and the entire staff at the Siteman Cancer Center for the exceptional care they provided Alan.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at Staab Funeral Home with Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. Burial will follow at New Berlin Lutheran Cemetery.

Alan IS an inspiration to many. His smile never forgotten or lost. The strength of Alan can move mountains. Tammy and Jennifer wrap yourselves with his strength as you go thru this time as he is with you thru it all. Greatly missed in this world.

Tammy, Jennifer and family, you have our deepest of sympathy. Alan was a wonderful friend and close co-worker for many years. I will always cherish many wonderful memories of Alan, he was a wonderful man. Thank you to Tammy for being such a wonderful care giver to Alan these past few years. Pam, I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember when we lived on State Street. Alan, was just a little guy, and Gloria Gibbons, and I (Libbie Peterson) used to come to your grandparents home. Your family was always so nice, and you were fun to spend time with. Fond memories of you, and Alan, as we grew up. Not many of us from that street around any more.
