FRIENDSHIP - Allan Douglas Taylor, age 85, of 2743 County Road 8, Friendship, and 310 Watkins Road, Clayton, N.C., passed away Wedne-sday, May 10, 2023, at Johnston UNC Health Hospital after a brief illness.

Allan was born April 12, 1938, in Blossburg, Pa., to Glenn and Lillian Enderle Taylor Allan.

He lived in Franklinville before moving to Friendship, where he attended Richburg Central High School, graduating in 1957. He went into the U.S. Air Force after graduation, spending most of his time stationed in England before leaving the Air Force and returning home to Friendship, where he has lived since, spending the past nine years in North Carolina with his wife, Carol, during the winter months.

Retiring in 2001 from Dresser-Rand in Wellsville, he worked in the steel industry building turbine engines for both military and other government contract work.

A long-time member of First Day Baptist Church in Richburg as both a member and trustee, his strong faith was evident to any who met him, always with encouraging words and passages to share with anyone in need.

He is a lifelong member of the NRA who loved shooting skeet and enjoyed hunting. He was in a band called "The Golden Hits Country Band" in his younger years as a guitarist and singer.

Being interested in history led him to be a part of the Civil War re-enactment division of 42nd PA Co. I "Bucktails" for many years, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

A proud veteran who wore his various Air Force hats daily, he will be well remembered for his ready smile, listening ear, huge hugs, handshakes, an even larger giving heart, with his large laugh that could charm the sun from the skies above.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Wightman) Taylor of 60 years; sons, Jeffrey and wife Laurie, Robert and wife Heather, Douglas Taylor and Alan Christopher Taylor; daughter, Rhonda Taylor; grandchildren, Christy (Taylor) and husband Wayne Barton, Daniel Taylor, Michael Taylor and wife Felecia, Renee (Taylor) Hiscock and husband Christopher Hiscock, Candace Taylor, Andrew Taylor and wife Jordan, Cody Taylor and wife Jessica, Chloe Taylor Neintemp, Rachel Lamb, Jacob Taylor, Liberty Taylor, Bradley Taylor and Chelsa Taylor; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Harmony Taylor, Isaiah Taylor, Alan Adolph, David Taylor, Eugene Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Austin Hiscock, Joseph Taylor, Jonathon Taylor, Eli Taylor, Jaeden Hiscock and Olivia Taylor; and surviving siblings, Stephen Taylor and wife Sandra, Lois (Taylor) and husband Gary Fancher, and Sue Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn Taylor, David Taylor and Raymond Taylor; and grandson Allan Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made instead to the Lymphoma Research Foundation (https://lymphoma.org/).
