Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2004.
BERG _ Angela Joan Berg (nee Hughes), succumbed after a short and courageous battle, to an unsuspected and inoperable cancer on September 25th, 2004 at Cranbrook Regional Hospital in spite of valiant and dignified efforts by her doctors and nurses. Born at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan April 2nd 1936, Angela grew up a prairie-girl until the family moved to Vancouver, BC in 1946. She graduated from Lord Byng High School in 1954 and entered into nurse's training at St. Paul's Hospital, graduating as a registered nurse in 1957. She married Ken Berg in 1958. Steven was born at Prince George in 1959, Karen in North Vancouver in 1961 and Christine in North Vancouver in 1964. Living in Prince George from 1965 to 1970, Angie was active in community affairs. Living in Fernie, BC from 1970 to 1984 she became the first nurse-manager of the Tom Uphill Home, a long-term care facility. When we moved back to Vancouver in 1984 she became the manager of the Icelandic long-term care facility. During 1984-85 she was staff nurse for the Island Creek of China Coal project, Ping Shuo, China. Upon coming back to Canada we moved to Aldergrove, BC where she became a staff nurse at the Jackman Manor facility until her retirement. She is predeceased by her parents Gerry and Mary Hughes, and brother Patrick (Charmaine). She leaves to remember her forever, her loving husband Ken, their children, Steve (Melanie) and granddaughter Crystal in Cranbrook, Karen in Vancouver, Christine (Robert) and granddaughters Amanda and Liana in Calgary. Also left to mourn are: stepmother Bernice Hughes; sisters, Barbara, (Rick) Kathleen and Deborah, (Pat), and sister-in-law Sylvia and brother-in-law Jack, and step-brothers Greg (Marilyn), Doug (Renee) and Susan (Richard), and many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout BC and around the world. Widely traveled, Angie loved the world. Wherever she went, she made friends. She loved to help and always thought of others before herself. Kind, unselfish and generous, she will be missed by all who knew her. Her ashes will be scattered at Yachats, Oregon, on the Seine River at Place Concorde, Paris, in Stanley Park, Vancouver and in the Arizona desert near our Mesa apartment. A memorial bench, funded by the immediate family, is planned for donation to the City of Cranbrook. A family gathering with local friends was held at Mark Memorial Chapel in Cranbrook on September 27th. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 3776 West 28th Avenue, in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, October 9th, 2004 at 11AM.
