PEABODY — Anthony A. "Tony" Bettencourt, 78, lifetime resident of Peabody, husband of the late Helen A. (Zermani) Bettencourt, died on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Peabody Glen Health and Care Center.
Tony was born on Sept. 4, 1931, in Peabody, son of the late Americo and Maria (Gill) Bettencourt. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1951, and was a lifelong resident of the City.
Tony was employed for 30 years as a custodian for the City of Peabody School System retiring in 1993. He dedicated his life to his family and for the past nine years was so proud of his four grandchildren. Tony was a lifetime member of the Portuguese American War Veterans, Post 1 of Peabody, and as a hobby he enjoyed fishing.
Tony is survived by his loving daughter, Maria Kaba of Peabody; four grandchildren, Ibrahim, Ramata, Aisha and Laila Kaba all of Peabody; a niece and her husband, Linda and John Silva of Peabody; a grandniece, Kathy Pelland of Peabody, and a grandnephew, Tony Silva of Danvers. His sister, Lindy Neves predeceased him.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Tony's memory to the Kidney Transplant/Dialysis Association, P.O. Maria,
