Arthur Born on October 27th, 1913, Arthur passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2011, at The Royal Blackburn Hospital after a short illness, aged 97 years, the loving husband of his late wife Audrey (nee Harrison), father to Anthony and Catherine, grand-father of Nigel, Edward and Jennifer and great grandfather to Samuel Pilling. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Born in Nelson to a family of Weavers, Blacksmiths and Loom Makers, his career followed a different academic path, becoming Head Master of first St Phillips and then St John's Church Schools in Nelson. During the war he served with the 14th / 20th King's Hussars Tank Regiment in Iraq and Italy. Arthur had a long family association with St John's, Great Marsden, he had been baptised there and was later Church Warden. Audrey and Arthur retired to Whalley where they supported St Mary and All Saints Parish Church.
His funeral will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13th, prior to cremation at Pleasington Crem-atorium.
