Betty Maymar
50 Year Marin Resident
1926 ~ 2004
Elizabeth "Betty" Ball Maymar passed away in the presence of her family on December 20th, 2004 after a short illness. She was 78 years old.
Betty was born in Oakland, California on May 21st, 1926 and graduated from Berkeley High School. Betty married Peter Maymar in 1950 and moved to Marin County in 1954. Betty and Peter settled in Tiburon where they raised their family. Later they moved to Mill Valley and Larkspur. Throughout the years they were privileged to have made many long lasting friends in this area.
While in high school Betty was selected to work for the State Farm Insurance Company and advanced to the position of executive secretary. She retired from State Farm when her oldest child was born. When her children were older she worked as an administrative assistant at various schools in Marin County and assisted Peter in his real estate business for many years. After her husband suffered a serious stroke, Betty took great care of him for 13 difficult years. Short in stature, fiery in spirit, Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother and wonderful friend.
Betty is survived by her sister, Margaret Ball Liskey of Issaquah, Washington; sons, Dan (and Margaret) Maymar of Ashland, Oregon and Mark (and Nancy) Maymar of Kentfield; grandchildren, John and Lauren Maymar. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Peter Maymar in 1995.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Betty's life will be held at St. Anselm's Church, 97 Shady Lane in Ross, at 11:00 AM on January 3rd, 2005. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Stroke Association would be appreciated.
