Billy Frank Ray, 74, long-time Altus pharmacist, passed away early Sunday morning, June 28, 2015, at his residence in Altus.
Mr. Ray was born in Altus, on Feb. 25, 1941, to William C. and Mary Ellon (Wise) Ray. Growing up in Altus, Billy was a 1959 graduate of Altus High School. A proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Billy graduated from pharmacy school with the class of 1963. For a time, Billy worked as a pharmacist in the Oklahoma City and Norman area before returning to Altus. In 1968, after Billy returned to Altus, Keith Dodson, Bill Ray and Billy opened United Discount Drug, where he spent the next 44 years and nine months, before building a new location across the street on East Broadway. On June 13, 1969, Billy married Cindy Lou Mackey and they spent the next 46 wonderful years together before his death. A supporter of youth and community activities, Billy was an avid OU fan who enjoyed collecting coins and golfing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons and great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jeff Ray.
Billy is survived by his wife Cindy of the home; one daughter, Joelle Dickenson of Altus; three grandsons, Damien Ray, William Ray and Gage Dickenson, all of Altus; one great-granddaughter, Everly Parker of Altus; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 2, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation services have been entrusted to Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory of Altus.
