Bobby Glenn Boozer, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at his home in Sacramento, Calif.
Bobby was a longtime dentist and took care of patients for several decades in the Arcade area of Sacramento. Born on Jan. 1, 1929, in Denton, Texas, Bobby was the youngest of four siblings. During the country's Great Depression, he and his family made the journey to California in search of job opportunities and a better life. They eventually settled in Bakersfield where Bobby grew up attending local schools before he studied at Fresno State, graduating in 1951. Bobby also attended the University of California, Berkeley and was married in 1951 to Shirley Ellen Castner of Napa. He graduated in 1955 from UCSF School of Dentistry.
Bobby proudly served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany in the 1950s. After the birth of their first child, Elizabeth, in 1956, Bobby and Shirley moved to Citrus Heights and had two more children, Forrest and Brian. With a growing family and dental practice, the couple moved to the Arcade area where they had their fourth child, Alice. Bobby lived in this home for 57 years. Throughout this time, Bobby loved to garden and would frequently drop by his neighbors to share the beautiful fruits and vegetables he grew in his backyard. He loved spending time with his kids in Tahoe and on many summer houseboat trips to Shasta. Friends and relatives were always welcome at his annual Christmas parties that included singing and dancing into the wee hours of the night.
Bobby loved music and sang in a few choirs. He also enjoyed performances by the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera and B Street Theatre. He was a member of many local professional organizations such as the Optimist Club and the Executive Association. In his younger years, he loved to play racquetball with his friends at Turn Verein and was known to break out his lederhosen for the organization's annual Oktoberfest.
Bobby had an insatiable curiosity and was always eager to learn more about world history, the depths of space and current affairs. He loved to start the day with a cup of coffee and two newspapers, the Wall Street Journal and Sacramento Bee.
Bobby also loved to travel and after exploring Europe, he ventured to New Zealand, Australia, China, Russia and Peru. He was an incredibly driven individual who always had a project or adventure underway. His perseverance throughout life and his successful business endeavors are a tribute to what we all call the American Dream.
Nothing gave Bobby more joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. For years, he held a family reunion on the Fourth of July where everyone swam in his pool and took turns cranking the ice cream maker.
Bobby had a wonderful appreciation for life and loved to make people laugh with his detailed stories and clever jokes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially by those he loved.
Bobby is survived by his four children, Elizabeth (Brian) Tomasin, Forrest (Beth) Boozer, Brian (Olya) Boozer and Alice (Richard) Warchol; eight grandchildren Brendan, Brianna, Mason, Molly, Madeline, Josef, Max, and Mattius; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Bobby's dear friends Ann Walters, Debbie Smith, and Sani Mule for making his final years the best they could be.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on May 31, 2025, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento.
