Beloved husband of Bernice P. Hensel (nee Rauscher). Loving father of Marvin (Kathy) Hensel Jr., Bonnie Jo Hensel and Monique (John) Hall. Proud grandpa of Dawn (Mark) Tillman, Nathan, Kelley and Abbey Hall, Samantha and Zachary Hensel. Loving great grandpa of Morgan (Josh) Copeland. Dear great-great grandpa of Eli, Alice and Opal. Dearest brother of Charlotte Schaefer. Dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Bud Hensel was born in Des Peres, Missouri on June 5th 1927. He attended Des Peres Grade School, a one room one teacher school for grades 1st through 8th. He attended Kirkwood High School and graduated in the spring of 1945. Before graduation, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He received notice to serve shortly after completing high school. Due to Bud’s natural ability working with tools, he was assigned to the U.S. Navy Seabee’s. Bud also signed up for the U.S. Navy Reserves and was called to serve in the Korean War in 1950.
Bud married Bernice Rauscher on April 14, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where Bud was a lifelong member.
After serving his country in the Navy, Bud decided to return to Des Peres and join his father in the family commercial refrigeration business. Bud was in the family business for his entire 45 year career.
During retirement, Bud enjoyed volunteering, giving his time and abilities to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School including the Early Childhood Center. His skills as an electrician, general handyman and problem solver were well-utilized.
In retirement, Bud discovered a passion for canoeing the National Scenic Riverways of the Ozarks in Missouri. He and Bernice were avid canoeists and loved the beauty of the river and surrounding habitat.

I have such precious fond memories of my Uncle Bud. He always greeted everyone with a smile and humor and a helpful hand. His gentleness is reflected in his three gifted children also. He cherished his wife and loved her their whole lives together. He truly embodied the spirit of Christ daily.

I am so sorry to hear about Bud. I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful friend he was to my family. He was a blessing to Mom and Dad and Donna (and me) for many years, both as a friend and a "technical advisor and contractor." His kind and compassionate nature was a gift to many. He has touched the lives of all of us and we will be forever grateful.
