Carol,

The first thing that comes to me is your smile and laughter. Your sense of humour and wonder. Your joy of the little unique items you discovered.

Carol came into our family in the mid 1970's and never left. She was there through thick and thin, through good times and sad times. A sister/friend to my mother and a good friend to me.
She sat with me through the last week of my mothers life at her bedside. Oh the memories we shared and knew mom could hear. Laughter, music, jokes some quite bawdy, again tears of joy and sadness.
I think what I am saying is Carol knew how to live life with passion and was ready to share that with whomever she could. Much loved and will be muched missed. Susan Edwards ( Bob and Barb Anderson)

I see her on the climbing on the fire escape stairwell at Oxford School hanging upside down. I see her playing a “witchy” witch in our school play. She received coverage in the “Halifax Herald” for that great performance. She loved the part! She loved the fun.

Carol was what was called a “tom boy” then, but today would be called a good sports person. She was competitive and enjoyed competing.

Whenever we met in later years, we just took up from where we left off. We could talk for hours and enjoyed sharing our common child hood memories.

I will miss our long telephone conversations.

I too was a classmate of Carol's at Oxford Street school and St. Pat's. We met again after many years at the St. Pat's 50 year reunion a few years ago in Halifax. Carol had the same ready smile that I remembered....til we meet again.

Carol was a good friend to me when I arrived in Canada in 1968. I have very happy memories of the time we shared a flat together in Vancouver. She was such good company and kind. We continued our friendship when I returned to England and she came to stay with my parents. The last time I saw Carol was in 2008 when she drove my husband and I around Vancouver in her car. I would like to extend my condolences to Robert, her brother, whom I met several times and the rest of her family. I shall miss playing lexulous with Carol on the internet and our long phone conversations. Sleep well, Carol, rest in peace. Jean V. McCarthy (née Poyser)

It is with great shock and sadness that I learned of the passing of my cherished friend, Carol. She & I have been friends since grade 1 at Oxford School, approximately 65 yrs. ago. We attended St. Pat's Highschool together for 2 yrs. before my family & I moved to Moncton, NB. On school holidays we would visit back & forth, but throughout our childhood we were inseparable. We spent an enormous amount of our school summer holidays at St. Mary's Boat Club on the Northwest Arm, swimming, diving, canoeing, sailing, dancing and paddling in the war canoe -- such wonderful memories. After graduation she joined the RCAF which took her to postings in Ontario & Quebec. When she retired from the Air Force she took up residence in Montreal for several years at which time I was living in Vancouver. During this time she and I corresponded frequently and she decided to join me in Vancouver. However, shortly thereafter my husband & I moved to Victoria, BC. Carol's brother & sister-in-law (Gerald & Mary) moved to Victoria within a few years as well. So Carol would make frequent ferry trips over to Victoria to visit all of us. After Gerald & Mary moved back to Halifax, Carol & I continued to visit back & forth to the end. After one reaches 65 yrs. the BC government allows you to travel back and forth as a foot passenger for free on the ferries from Monday thru Thursday. So once we both reached 65 yrs. (5 yrs. ago) our visitations took on a new format. Every month we would alternately hop on the ferry (as a foot passenger), and sail to the other side, with the other person meeting the ferry in the car. We would then drive to a nice restaurant and have a 2 hr. or so lunch together, then return to the ferry for the trip back home again. Although the ferries have hourly sailings, Carol would always request that I not take a ferry earlier than 10:00 am, so she didn't have to get up too early to meet me. We were never at a loss for things to talk about, but very often our conversation would centre on 'the good ole days in Halifax' topics. I shall remember those lunches forever. This year my husband & I decided to spend the winter in Arizona and before leaving I called Carol around 6:00 pm and was quite surprised that there was no answer. I later learned that she had passed around that time. Our last lunch together was in Vancouver, three weeks earlier. I shall miss her terribly, but she is at peace now and I am very happy for that. I shall always cherish our wonderful times together.

My memories of my Aunt Carol will always be about when I lived in Vancouver the summer of 1979 and then again for 2 years from 1980-1982. Carol showed me around many great eating spots in the West End when she lived on Nelson St and I enjoyed meals and a good glass of wine with her at her apartment. We went to the CFL games many times together as well. It was great to know I had Carol as my family when I lived there. I am fortunate that I had the opportunity to know Carol at that point in my life. I will remember her kindness and her laugh. She will be missed in our family. I hope you are having a great game of "Scat" or "Put and Take" Carol with your brothers, Pat, Charlie and Gerald and Nana and Grandad Connors. I can hear you saying "I have a nickel" now. Rest in peace. We love you.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences for my dearest friend Carol. We were friends at Oxford School and St Pats High in Halifax. Also, we lived on Harvard St in Halifax when young and spent many days at each others houses. I knew her Mom, Dad and brothers very well. We were only 11 days apart in age. I saw her about 20 yrs ago.. My name is Margaret McTiernan (Hicks) my e-mail [email protected]
