Cassie Lavonia Taylor

Cassie Lavonia Taylor, 98, died August 3, at a Topeka retirement facility. She was born July 27, 1910 in Lenexa, KS to the parentage of Rashey Moten and Theodosa Salina Moten. Both parents preceded her in death as well as a daughter, Norma Jean Taylor. She was married to Wesley Eldon Taylor on October 19, 1932 in Topeka, KS. He also preceded her in death on December 29, 1996. Mrs. Taylor was a pre-school teacher. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Washburn University where she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church. Survivors include her sons, Rodgar Taylor of Salem, OR, and Dr. Dale Taylor of Eau Claire, WI; a daughter, Janice Taylor of Paramount, CA; and a brother, Booker Moten of Detroit, MI. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9 at St. John A.M.E. Church. She will lie in state from 4-8 p.m. at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
