CHARLES CHERNIK Obituary
Age 78, of Imperial, PA passed peacefully on Sunday morning, December 11, 2011. Cherished husband of 54 years to Connie (Stefanski) Chernik; loving father of Christine (Jeff) Falconer, Cindy (Rusty) Ayers and "C.R." Chernik, Jr. (Dee Dankocsik) and forever proud grandfather of Elissa Falconer; brother of Alex (Juanita) Chernik and Tom (Diane) Chernik; son of the late Aleck and Rose (Hritz) Chernik; also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who were like his extended family. Herk graduated from West Allegheny in 1951, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He attended Mount Union College in Alliance, OH, before joining the Army, where he proudly served his country in the Korean War. Herk's first employer was Warren Associates, Pgh., an association and friendship he valued for more than 50 years. He spent over 30 years in the banking industry, retiring from Equibank in 1989. He also served as an elected auditor for Findlay Twp. and North Fayette Twp. Of all Herk's accomplishments, he was proudest of his family. His favorite sports were football and golf. Many days were spent playing golf at Ponderosa, Fallen Timber and Williams Country Club. His dry wit was always sure to bring a smile to anyone he met. He treasured the annual couple's golf trip, watching his son play collegiate sports and family vacations to Hilton Head Island. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his team of doctors, the Fresenius dialysis staff in Robinson Twp. and the staff at Manor Care - Greentree for their care and compassion. Family to receive friends at the WHARTON - HERRICK FUNERAL HOME, Edward M. Herrick, Funeral Director/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Rd., N. Fayette Twp., Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332, Thursday between the hours of 12 and 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at his parish of St. Columbkille Church, Rt. 30, Imperial, Friday at 9:30 a.m. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Followed by interment with full military honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. It is respectfully requested, memorial donations be sent to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

I wanted to send my sympathy about Mr Chernick passing. Over the last couple of years I became close with him and his wife and always tried to make him smile when he came for a visit to the office. I remember on my last day of work there I saw him and he told me that I always make him smile. He will be missed by all! Robin P (Penn hills, PA

Connie & Family,
Chuck was such a great person to work with at Equibank. His work ethic, his knowledge but most of all his personality made it a pleasure to come to the office. After I left I looked forward every year to getting that Christmas card from you and him. I'm sorry that I won't make it to the viewing but will keep you all in my prayers. You just acquired a new "Guardian Angel" to watch over you.

Mr. C. was a pleasure to work with. He made me laugh, while always keeping our records straight, and always being reliably on top of things so we didn't have to worry. I can't imagine we will ever find a more thorough, or more competent accountant and friend . Charlie's friendship with my Dad, Warren continued over 50 years - two men of great character. All of us in the Gottschalk family shall greatly miss Mr. Chernik.

Chuch was my mentor at Equibank and became my every day lunch parnter. Later, he assisted me and others at Reeves Bank. I will forever treasure my memories of him. I am sad for his family, but take comfort knowing Chuck is playing golf in Heaven.
