Charles E. Weiland September 5, 2022 Charles E. Weiland, 89, passed away on September 5th, 2022 at Upstate Hospital after a short illness. Born in Syracuse and lived in Cicero most of his life, starting with his parent's camp in Kraus Landing and Oneida Lake. He retired from NYS Fair Garage. Chuck lost a lung to TB at the age of 17, which prevented him from following in his father's footsteps by becoming a Syracuse Firefighter. He was a charter member of the South Bay Vol. Fire Dept., past chief and retired with over 55 years of service. In his younger years, he raced at Brewerton in his #222 Henry J. Stock car. He enjoyed hunting with the boys,watching NASCAR, fishing on Oneida Lake and attending Old Forge Fire School for over 50 plus years. He was a past Town of Cicero Highway Supt in the 70's. His is predeceased by his parents, Charles J. and Mary Weiland, his wife, Lucy and his grandson, Derek Weiland. He is survived by his love, Dorcas Tuohey; a daughter, Theresa (Thomas) Walsh; sons, Richard (Tobie) and Charles J. (Karen); five grandchildren, Thomas (Christina), Cory (Katie), Cameron (Rebecca) Walsh, Brooke (Vincent) Cramer and CJ Weiland. His favorite little sweethearts, Sophie, Robert, Lucy, Edward and Emmett Walsh; two sister-in-laws, Sue, Donna Smith and many nieces, nephews and many great friends. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY on Saturday, September 10th from 4-7pm. Funeral service will follow at 7pm. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the South Bay Vol. Fire Dept., 8817 Cicero Center Road, Cicero, NY 13039. Visit newcomersyracuse.com.
