On this anniversary of his passing, I thought it time to comment on my friend Chris. It was 50 years ago this fall that we met at University Hall (West Campus) at UD. Last summer when I heard that he was gravely ill, I sent him an email just to let him know what a great influence he had been on my life by what he instilled in me during that freshman year at UD. On our in house radio station in the dorm, his tutelage in the art of entertaining with the spoken word brought a prior non-existent confidence to me that stuck from that point on. I told him in that email that I doubted that I would have even entered let alone be successful in my chosen field of elective politics were it not for his guidance and positive influence on me. I hope he was still well enough at the time to read it and realize that I was just one example of the positive results that his life made possible.

So sorry to hear of Chris' passing. We kept in touch over the years, going to a Michigan football game a few years ago. A fun guy - we always enjoyed each other's company. He even managed to make his way through the snow & cold to the UP for our wedding in December 1972. We wish we had learned of his passing in time to have made the Funeral. We miss him and offer solace to his family at this difficult time.

I first met Chris when he owned WKKI and I worked across town at WCSM. Several years later he and John Robertson hired me for weekends at The Bear. The early days of The Bear were wonderful, and a first-class learning experience. My condolences to his personal and professional family.

Chris had a profound impact on my life.
He hired a 27 year old radio sales guy from Connecticut and made me Sales Manager of The Bear when we signed on the air in January of 1989. I worked with him for several years, and then I went off to Television and he went off to radio in Muncie. We reconnected when I was in the agency business and he was running a first class research company. We worked professionally together and shared a regular lunches together.
Chris donated his time to Redeemer Radio a Catholic station over the last several years when I was there in technical areas and in programming. It was very gratifying to have him sharing his experience with Redeemer and it offered us some nice opportunities for lively discussions about our shared faith. Whether the Church or Politics or a number of other issues, Chris was never afraid to share his opinions.
Chris quietly mentored so many people including me. He always made time for people and had a knack of knowing when to check in and say hi. He dearly loved Amy, Collette and Lauren and they were the center of his life. He talked about them often and did all he could to be a top flight father and husband. He also talked about his Mom a good deal and the lessons he learned from his Dad.
Chris had passion and enthusiasm for everything he did including UD, his past radio stations, the Boy Scouts, Rotary, his faith and people.
Amy, Collette and Lauren, know that Chris loved you so, bragged to his friends about you a lot and put you at the center of his thoughts. We will keep him and you in our prayers and cherish the impact that Chris had in our lives.
God Bless,
Dave Stevens

His spirit will live on in, as we each carry special memories of this special man. You have my deepest condolences.

Amy,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember just a year ago the two of you stopped over at Sandy's. Even though I had never met him before, he had such a kind personality and sparkle toward everyone around him. And I'm usually the sparkling one! Go figure:)

Amy, Lauren and Collette:
Sorry to learn of Chris' passing after his brave battle. I can speak for the dozens of guys and gals who worked for and with Chris at WVUD in the early 1970s that we would not be where we are today without Chris Cage. So glad we all got to see Chris at the WVUD reunion last June.

A rare man who brought a smile to everyone he passed. He was on the board of the United Way when I was there and his insights were always sharp and helpful, and his hand always offered. Just a top notch guy from start to finish. Jim

I am saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and sometime client, Chris Cage. I got to know him as we worked on matters related to the second love of his life: Radio. A challenging business, but Chris met challenges with integrity.
It became clear that radio ranked behind family with Chris. The family he loved so dearly will be in my prayers.

I will always remember our talks about radio talks about radio waves and the ionosphere at our Uncle Bob's house. Chris gave a thorough and complete lecture like a professor to a university student. He always took the time to give a well thought out response and was a inspiration to be around when I was growing up.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Chris's passing. Chris and I were friends and classmates at the University of Dayton (Class of 1970). We both worked at WVUD where Chris was a great inspiration to me and many others who worked with him at WVUD. Although it has been years since I have had contact with Chris, I will NEVER forget the great times we had at UD. He was born with incredible talent and was a "natural" for the radio business. Rest in Peace, My Friend!

To Chris' family, I am so sorry for your loss. I hadn't talked to Chris in a while and had no idea he was ill. I was a customer of his and most of our dealings were by phone and email. There might be long breaks between the times we worked together, but whenever I called, we picked up our conversation right where we left off! He was one of the the nicest, sweetest, most personable people I ever dealt with, and yet he was all the things you want in a business person: honest, prompt, knowledgeable and a true problem solver. I finally got to meet him a few years ago when I was in Fort Wayne attending an Ad Fed meeting and I was on the panel. He came up to introduce himself afterward and I immediately recognized that VOICE. Our phone-email business friendship became real! I needed to get to another meeting afterward and asked him for directions. Not content with giving me verbal directions, he said he was going near there and had me follow his car. How considerate was that to go out of his way? I just want you to know how much he will be missed.

He was banging on the table to the beat of a song that was playing on a video presentation and I thought, who is this funny guy? :) He had a big voice, a big smile, and a big heart and will be greatly missed. Keeping Amy, Lauren, and Collette in my thoughts and prayers. <3 - Andie Mobley
