BRAUNER, Col. Clarence J. Jr.

83, of Madeira Beach, and native of New Orleans, LA, gave his final salute Oct. 6, 2014. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1973 and assumed the vice presidency of a local bank. Later he returned to N.O. and taught at a local community college as an Associate Professor of Business Studies and as an Adjunct Professor at Delgato Junior College. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired from the Army in 1984 with the rank of Colonel. After 32 years of active and reserve service in Infantry, Ordnance, Artillery and Transportation Corps, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement. Among his other awards are included; National Service Defense, Army Reserve Achievement, Armed Forces Reserve with 2 hourglasses, Armed Forces Service and Army Service Ribbons. Colonel Brauner was a graduate of Marion Military Institute, Virginia Military Institute (where he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Infantry), Tulane and Loyola Universities. He held an A.S., B.C.S., B.A., B.S.S. and M.B.A. degrees. He also was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and Industrial College of the Armed Forces and Naval Amphibious School. He retired from the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council/Area Agency on Aging in 1992 as Fiscal Officer. He was a Protestant. A visitation will be held from 3-5pm on Sunday, Oct. 12, at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N., St. Petersburg. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Colonel Brauner was Past President of the Exchange Club of New Orleans, Member of the American Legion Post #273, and Life Member of the Reserve Officers Association, Past President of the Sons of the American Revolution, Withlacoochee Chapter, Past 2nd Vice President of the Young Mens Business Club of New Orleans and Board Member of the N.O. Floral Trail. He was also a member of Citrus Lodge #118 F. & A.M. and Ocala Scottish Rite 32nd degree and Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America, 101st Airborne Division Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and the prestigious Morgan Raiders, the distinguished Honor Military Society. Colonel and Mrs. Brauner lived at Sea Towers, Madeira Beach. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Dorothy Crowell; a daughter, Randee Rathbone, Midland, TX; a son Eric Brauner, of Bradenton and Philip Brauner of Midland, TX; stepdaughters, Paula Parkerson of Louisville, KY and Mary Murray, of Brandon; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Dottie I was so sorry to hear about Clarence I will I could of been with him at Arlington when the Colonel was laid to rest. I will miss my Army buddie and Mentor for many years. My best to you and the family. LTC Robert C. Penick, USAR, (ret)

It is with much sadness that we say farewell to our good friend, Clarence.
He was a true gentleman, and a wonderful man. He will be remembered with fond memories. Our deepest sympathy to Dot and the family.
