Dan was my best friend from age 5, to his passing. I lived right down the street from him and we were together nearly everyday. I spent my entire childhood and youth with him by sharing literally every moment you could imagine.

It's ten years now since he's been gone. I'm in my 30's now, married with children, and live the adult part of my life without my best friend growing up being able to enjoy it with me.

I don't think I will ever get over the sadness, I still think about this everyday.

However, Dan is still here with us. I know first hand. The strength I need to get through tough moments in life are fueled from the times I remembered when Dan would help me push myself to the limits.

Not just in the gym, but through challenges in our upbringing we went through & solved together.

I cherish those moments with Dan the most because they resonate with me anytime I need some extra motivation to get through a hurdle.

I can promise you that Dan will never be forgotten! His 23 years on this planet were enough to make an impact for a lifetime.

To the family; I served with Dan for almost a year before he was sent to C Co to advise students. We were very close yet distant at the same time. Words are not enough to express my thanks for giving us such a great man. Nor will they ever speak thoroughly about the pain I feel as we all journey our way without Dan. Dan was one of the best Marines I've ever served with. He was motivated and had every skill you could possibly think of to complete a job. Off duty Dan and I would talk a little. He always had a flat tire that I would repair for him. And he was always there for me when I needed something. Just as I tried to be there for him. I seen Dan last, the Tuesday before that tragic weekend. And if I had known it would be my last time I would have just hugged him for a while. Maybe even ask for a picture together. But we are never expectant of things like this. So I conclude with my lesson learned. Cherish the living everyday the same way we would on the day they parted days from us. I thank you again for allowing us Marines to witness his beauty in life. And let that give us faith that we may cross paths again. I miss you Dan. Love you buddy

To the Vilevac Family:

My son served with Dan in A Co and considered Dan his brother. The bond they shared will never be forgotten. He was devastated at learning of Dan's passing, saying that Dan was “a really good guy.” Dan is a hero who protected his country and gave the ultimate sacrifice. There are no words to express the depth of our sorrow for your family. Please know that the Vilevac family is in our prayers. May God grant you peace and strength in the days ahead.

Kathy; remember the good, forget the bad, I hope you and your family will be able to find peace. I remember all the kid stories we would share during our birthing center days and Danny was always a part of those stories. As the mother of a Marine, we worry about them all the time but never expect this news when they are home. Love

Monika, Robert, & Kathleen - Our hearts are broken over the news of Daniel's death. Our son worked with Daniel at Quantico and he happened to be visiting us last Monday when another Marine, who also had worked with Daniel, texted him with the grim news. Our son was visibly shaken. He said everyone liked Daniel. That he was a great Marine, dependable, good natured, and did his work skillfully and conscientiously. As our son said, "We are all diminished by the loss of a brother Marine. But even more determined to move forward in honor of that brother."

Please know that your family is being held close to our hearts and in our prayers as you go through this horrible, dark, and painful valley. May angels wings enfold you all and give you all strength when you feel as if yours' has run out. Semper Fi.

No words can meaningfully express
Comfort to Dan's grieving ones
His sudden loss is hard on them
To bear what cannot be undone

So let us light this candle Lord
With loving thoughts and prayers
And beg You bless and help them Lord
And let them know You are there

May Your good angels lead Dan's soul, O Lord
From these dark shores below
To rest in peace and grant him Lord
An abode in Your heavenly glow

O Lord, grant comfort to Dan's grieving ones
Lord God of Light and Love
And grant all men here below
Your peace that comes above.

Deepest sympathy to your family - and gratitude to Corporal Daniel. With all the commotion going on in the news - it sadly becomes easy to forget all the brave and true men and women doing their part to keep our country free. He took care of us - now our Lord will take care of him. God bless.
