David Alfred Porteous Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2010.
David Alfred Porteous
June 7, 1923 – December 1, 2010

It is with so much love and the saddest of hearts that the family of David Alfred Porteous announces his passing on December 1, 2010 at the age of 87. With his wee Jeanie and five children by his side, and in the comfort of his own home, Dad took his last breath after years of struggling with COPD. David leaves behind his loving wife Jeanie of 63 years, his children Bruce, Rob, Cathy (Rick), Jan (Ken), and Karen (Donald), 10 grandchildren Hillary, Julia, Thomas, Candice, Jennifer, Lauren, Kirstyn, Adam, Cole and Claire and great granddaughter Hannah, his dear sister Elsie, sister-in-law Marcia and daughter-in-law Bev as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. A very special thanks to the friends of Bill W. His passing leaves us all with an enormous loss, but also with the happiest of memories and the strongest of families. The Clan Porteous invites you to join us in a Celebration of his Life on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in The Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home (3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby) starting at 1:30pm. We would like to extend our greatest appreciation and thanks to the wonderful care and support of the Burnaby Health home care team, especially nurse Tracey and family doctor, Ken J. Appleby. Thank you so much for all of your support and kindness in our time of need. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Lung Association at www. bclung.ca or the The Covenant House at www.covenanthousebc.org

We love you and miss you.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change…Courage to change the things I can…and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Dave... What an honour to have known such a wonderful person. A kind, gentle man, proud of his clan and loving wife. I will always remember the twinkle in his eye, his great sense of humour, and his marvellous hugs! Love lives on in the hearts of all who remember and care. I will miss you Dave. Love Nicky (and Steve).

Dear Dave

Thankyou Dave for greeting me at the door so many times and putting me at ease. You helped so many people by your example and you always kept it simple. Those times when i was struggleing you just said ...Keep coming back . Then i started a new career with a company only to be sent to your house to help with a water line and it was your house. You were the father in law of the owner of the company i was and still am working for . So many times i returned on offical business and was able to give back . God bless Dave and thankyou
