David Gunter

David (Willie) Gunter, age 75, of Thompsonville, Illinois passed away at 6:20 p.m Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 22, 1935 in West Frankfort, Illinois to David and Gracie Gunter. He was raised in Plumfield with family and many friends; David (Willie) pitched fast pitch softball for 25 years with the West Frankfort Merchants. He coached both womens and mens softball teams for many years; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, David; sisters: Edna Bowers, Helen Chase, Maggie Kelley, Virginia Murphy; brothers: Bennie, Leon, Gene, Carl (Cat) Gunter. Survivors include his daughters: JoAnn Murphy of Thompsonville, Gloria (Donnie) Henson of West Frankfort; sons: David Jr. (Jane) Gunter of Zeigler, Jack (Raenita) Gunter of Thompsonville, Bill (Sharon) Gunter of Herrin; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers: Dean Gunter of West Frankfort, Eddie Gunter of Cutler; special friend, Glenda Wortman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois with Charles Bowers officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompsonville, IL.
