In memory of
Michael Martin
January 8, 2008
Habersham County
Michael David Martin 2005
High on a hill in Habersham County
He looks to the west as the late day sun
Shines so bright ‘cause the air’s so thin and clear
So far away from Habersham County
I try to make sure I always run with the wind
‘Cause it never lets up, it just changes the way it blows
White ’59 Ford driving down our street
You at the wheel, heading for home
I saw you coming from the neighbor’s yard
Thought I’d catch a ride
I ran right out in front of your car
You hit the brakes, I opened the door
I jumped in beside you, I had scared you so bad
You didn’t want it to show
It was a long time ago
High on a hill in Habersham County
Away from it all but finally home
And he’s not alone ‘cause she loves him
For just the man he came to be
So far away from Habersham County
In the thick of it all, I finally see
How it came to be for you and then for me
’62 Pontiac station wagon
Eight hundred miles Catalina Safari
Car in the lane ahead slowed to a crawl
We’re closing fast
Mesmerized, then your eyes opened wide
Cut hard left in the nick of time
We swerved right by ‘em and the look in their eyes
It burned on your soul
It was a long time ago
So far away from Habersham County
Half a century ago in Washtenaw County
Muggy summer morning, life begins again
So far away from Washtenaw County
Way out west the Willamette Valley
On the ninth of November I finally know
What it really means to love
High on a hill in Habersham County
He looks to the west as the late day sun
Shines so bright ‘cause the air’s so thin and clear
So far away from Habersham County
I try to make sure I always run with the wind
‘Cause it never lets up, it just changes the way it blows

I only heard about Dave's death the other day;my heart goes out to all of those who loved him
i knew the Martin family from IHM days, and watched in marvel at how
Dave and Carol handled this energetic and bright cadre of children, with grace and wonder and enjoyment. Can it be 40+ years now - somehow we only get younger as memories make us smile: from watching the achievements of the kids and the Dad and Mom, and gathering at the house to talk CFM, or Ga Tech or even stuff Monsignor Regan was doing.
My prayers are with you all. Dave lived his life fully as you know, and in the tradition of his love of flight, he soared -- thanks to all of you
God bless you all

To all the Martins from all the Buechners, we fondly remember the days when we were friends in the early 60's at IHM. I particularly remember Dave's humor and that he and Bob were always laughing about something. God bless you all.

The legacy he leaves behind in the children he brought to this earth is the greatest gift he gave all of us. I know there are no words to ease the grief but there is cause for celebration in having known him and that is what I'm grateful for. Through all of you, he will live on and there is an element of comfort in that.
I love all of you and I'm thinking about you.
Love, Fish
P.S. When it's dark and you miss him most, he'll be there.

Missouri. Your Father was always a free spirit and enthusiastic person.

Thinking of you, Kathy & Bob - what sweet things you all had to say about your dear Father! Thank you for sharing it. What a wonderful Tribute to him. He 'plays' in Heaven now,... no cares or worries. I pray for that same peace for you, too.

Kathy and Family,
I only met your Dad one time at Kathy's wedding about 18 months ago, but I remember he was a real kick, quick and witty. I would also call him the essence of fun! What a blessing that you could all be together over Christmas to see him one more time.
Party on now, David, with the Lord!

I hardly knew Mr. Martin, but in the past year or so that I have known him, I grew to love the guy. He was very intellegent and very kind, and it just isn't the same without him. It's hard to say that I can't think of him without crying, but it's true. We ALL miss you grandpa Dave, and I hope your looking down on us and watching our every move from heaven. May your soul rest in peace.

To the Family
I am sorry to hear of your loss. Losing anyone in death can be very hard especially if that person is very loving. 1 Corinthians 13:5,8 states that "love does not look for its own interests... love never fails." Love is characteristic that we all need to cultivate. I send you my condolences to you and your family.

I only met Mr. Martin once, at his daughter Kathy's wedding but he had such a twinkle of mischief in his eye and a sweet manner about him that made me feel comfortable in his prescence. What a bright soul. Geri Bosley

I can't believe you're actually gone, dear old Dad. And maybe it's because you're not--you live on in all of us! And when it's my time to go, I hope I am surrounded by lots of people who love me, as you were.

My Dad was truly one of a kind and I will miss him sorely. I hope those many folks whose lives he touched can make it to the wake or funeral, or submit something through this guest book.
