David Francis Stanley

In loving memory of David Stanley Sr. who passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2014. A rosary and Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Monsignor Braun will officiate at the service. A private interment will follow.
David Stanley was born in West Pittson, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Anna Stanley and was the youngest of seven siblings. Dave and his mother moved to Montebello, California in 1940. He attended Garfield High School where he graduated in 1949. He went onto UCLA and became the number one golfer his sophomore year. That same year Dave won the United States Public Links Golf Championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the 38th hole. He left UCLA after his junior year to try his hand at pro golf. However, in need of a regular paycheck he found his way to Bakersfield, California and became the 1st assistant Golf Pro for Babe Lazane at the Bakersfield Country Club. There he met the love of his life, Camille, in 1954. They were married for 48 years and are finally together again.
Shortly after marrying Camille, Dave began working for his father-in-law at Giumarra Vineyards where he worked for 32 years. Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He would reminisce and look back fondly of the many travel adventures he and Camille shared with friends. He was an active member of the Bakersfield Country Club and served on the greens committee for several years. He was a very generous man and was acknowledged for his support and contributions to countless organizations and foundations. In 2012 he was inducted into the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame for his outstanding accomplishments in amateur golf.
Dave is preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents and brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brother-in-law Robert Corsaro and his loving sons, David Stanley Jr. and wife, Karen and their children Meghan Stanley, Melanye and John Yacos, and Stephanie Stanley, Robert Stanley and wife, Stacey and children Dominick and Gunnar Stanley and Steven Stanley and wife, Marji and their children Lauren and Michelle Stanley.
Pallbearers include Dominick Stanley, Gunnar Stanley, John Yacos, Gary Giumarra, Steve Haupt and Greg Haupt. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Scarbrough, Doug Hoff, Paul Summers, Robert Corsaro, Robert Petro and Tommy Jacobs. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Anita Bernal and Darlene Kiner for their love, devotion and care they so generously gave to Dave. Steve Scarbrough or his loyal friendship and Dr. William Baker and staff for the wonderful care they gave him.
