David "Dave" F. Walsh, 79, of Salem, MA, embarked on his final journey on September 14, 2023, in Palm Desert, CA. He leaves behind a legacy of remarkable achievements and cherished moments, forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him.  Dave's educational journey began at St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, MA, where he graduated with the Class of 1962. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (major) and Philosophy (minor) in 1966.

His dedication to serving his country saw him embark on a distinguished career in the United States Navy, spanning from 1966 to 1986. Rising from Ensign to Commander, Dave's commitment and leadership were a source of inspiration to all who served alongside him. His pursuit of excellence continued as he completed a Masters of Science (MS) in Operations Research at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, in 1973. In 1976, he added to his repertoire by completing the Command and Staff Course at the US Navy War College in Newport, RI.

Dave’s career after the Navy was equally impressive. He joined Kapos Associates in 1986, where he began as an analyst and eventually rose to the position of Vice President. His analytical skills and leadership were assets to the company for over a decade. In 2002, Dave embarked on a new chapter in his professional life, founding Walsh Analytics. As its President, he led the company with vision and dedication until 2010, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and acumen.

Dave's personal life was a testament to his loving nature. While at Marquette, as a junior he snuck into a freshman mixer where he met and charmed Mary Ann by asking her out for “peetzer.”  Despite not understanding his Boston accent, she agreed, enjoyed the pizza, and so began their 59 year relationship. He married Mary Ann and together they raised three daughters: Elizabeth A. Walsh of Palm Desert, CA; Sarah K. Walsh of Long Beach, CA; and Susan M. (Justin) Huntington of San Diego, CA.  He especially cherished his role as a grandfather to Dylan D. Huntington and Georgia K. Huntington.

He is survived by his brother Jack Walsh and his wife Teresa of Townsend, MA, and his sister Natalie Walsh and husband Robb Vermuelen of Missoula, Montana. Dave was predeceased by his parents, David and Louise Walsh of Salem, MA.

Dave's faith was a cornerstone of his life, beginning from his time as an altar boy in the Catholic Church. He was also a proud member of Mensa, a dedicated runner, an avid biker, a New York Times Crossword puzzler (in pen, of course), and a voracious reader. One of his first questions when meeting you: “What are you reading these days?” He found solace and joy in the music he loved, and he was a passionate Parrot head and music aficionado. You could count on him to be decked out in one of his Celtics green jerseys for the Celtics games, even those he only listened to on the radio. He relished the freedom of the open road, and unless it was pouring rain, he would always drive with his convertible top down, embracing the wind and the world around him.

In remembering Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived, a career marked by dedication to his country, and a heart full of love for his family and friends. His legacy as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a man of diverse interests will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Dave's spirit will forever live on in the cherished memories we hold dear.

Rest in peace, Dave, and may the convertible of eternity always have its top down as you journey through the heavens above. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.

The family will hold a celebration of Dave’s life on October 16, 2023, beginning with a funeral mass at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church (11451 Blue Cypress Drive, San Diego, CA) at 10:00 a.m., followed by a burial at Miramar National Cemetery (https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/miramar.asp) at 12:30 (arrival at noon).

In lieu of flowers, Dave’s friends are encouraged to give generously to the Alzheimer’s Association or a favorite charity that fights for a cure for dementia.  His ALZ tribute page can be be accessed through this link:https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Events/Tributes-AlzheimersChampions?pxfid=840878&fr_id=1060&pg=fund
