Doris "Dorie" L. Holevoet, 80, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Davenport, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, following a brief illness.
A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 13, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, where the rosary will be recited by her friends and a prayer service will be held at 4 p.m.
Dorie was born June 22, 1925, in Burlington, Iowa, to Harriet Elizabeth and Franklin Lee Sample. She was on the honor roll at Wilton High and graduated in the class of 1942. During World War II, she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross as a Nurse's Aide. She married Howard Holevoet on May 15, 1948, in Davenport.
She was a former member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport, and a member of the Catholic Women's League. Dorie was a volunteer at the CASI mealsite for 20 years. She received the Governor's Award in 1999 for her volunteer service.
Dorie and Howard celebrated their 57th anniversary on May 15, 2005. Dorie and Howard lived with their daughter, Connie, in Atlanta, Ga., where she enjoyed her monthly neighborhood luncheon with her friends. Dorie's pride and joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Howard, Atlanta, Ga.; son, Steve, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Connie Timmerman, Atlanta, Ga., and Jan Friedman, and her husband, Steve, Charlotte, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Tara Hill, and her husband, David, New York, N.Y., Heather Schutman, Charlotte, N.C., Eric Schutman, Raleigh, N.C., and Michael and Daniel Holevoet, Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorials may be made in the form of Mass offerings or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
