MR D. BATTY
(of Worksop)
FORMER Worksop cricketer, Mr Douglas Batty, of Central Avenue, has passed away at Forest Hill Nursing Home, after a short illness, aged 84.
He leaves his son Ian, daughter-in-law Diane and grandsons Keith and Simon.
Born and educated in Conisborough, Mr Batty also attended St John's Boys School in Worksop, and had lived in the town for 71 years.
A Millwright for Beards Mill in Worksop until its closure in 1972, Mr Batty served 34 years there, before retiring from Page Feeds in Killamarsh after 11 year's service.
From 1958 until 1960, he played for Worksop Cricket Club, where he captained the 2nd XI to the championship. During his youth, Mr Batty had also played football and hockey.
More recently, he enjoyed his time walking his beloved Springer Spaniels, but was happiest when surrounded by his family whom he adored.
A service at St Anne's Church, Worksop, was conducted by Rev John Ogley, and was followed by cremation at Sherwood Forest Crematorium, Ollerton.
