Douglas Waugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2012.
Douglas Robert Ronald Waugh aged 63 of Fort Langley BC, passed away suddenly on March 7th, 2012.

Born March 25th, 1949 in Edmonton, AB

Lovingly remembered by his wife Jennifer, Mother Ellen, son Jason (Kelly), daughters Vanessa and Jordana, grandchildren Ariana, Daria, Max, and Reeve, great-grandson Mahkai, siblings Gordon (Joanne), Diane (Bill), Mary-Jane, Rick, Charlene, Roberta (Scott), and Janine (Kirby) and faithful companion Harley as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by Father Robert.

Adoring husband and devoted Father, Doug was known for living life to the fullest without obstacles and having more energy than men half his age. Always a loving and generous heart willing to do anything for anyone and could fix almost anything. He was an enthusiastic fisherman who loved going to his Northern Saskatchewan Fishing Camp with his family and "buddies". Beyond passionate pilot and aviation entrepreneur…visionary, spontaneous, and adventurous!

His Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lindair Services 5180 Airport Road South, Richmond, BC Friday March 16th 1pm at his place of work . In lieu of flowers "Arctic" will be collecting contributions towards an education fund for Vanessa and Jordana. Please call Shelley at 604-303-7794. Doug you gave me one of the best experiences in my life! The few days up in Shuswap babysitting was a life changing experience. I will never forget your generosity, caring personally, and love to the three important women in your life. Thank you for everything that you had to offer for me, I will never forget you!

My condolences to Jennifer, Jason, Ellen, and the entire Waugh family with the sudden passing of Doug. Memories have been flooding back from our early years together, school, ball, fishing, hunting, and learning to fly together. Doug lived life to the fullest at all times and was always a center of energy. Now rest in peace old friend; you will be missed. Keep it straight and level.

I truly enjoyed seeing Doug in passing as our daughters attended dance together. I noticed immediately that Doug was a man different than others, an amazing attentive father and husband who always had a smile on his face and a spring in his step. I only wish I could have gotten to know him better! My family sends deepest condolences to Jennifer, Vanessa, Jordana and all the other family.

Doug was a great guy who was so warm, kind and generous. He made you feel good, important and loved. It is still so hard to believe that he has left us, 10 days in, after hearing about his passing, I am still in disbelief. His celebration of life, yesterday, was large and overflowing with people that knew Doug and his most amazing family. To have it in an airplane hanger (where Doug worked) was such a great move. It felt as if Doug was there and watching us.........
With the "standing room only" crowd carefully listening to the heartfelt speeches, by Jennifer and the girls, family and friends...it was hard to hold back the tears...so, I for one did not!
The day was very well done and will be remembered for the rest of my life!
Rest In Peace, Doug...You will be missed!!!

Very sad to hear Doug has passed. As long as I live I will never forget the kind hospitality he showed myself and 3 friends when we attended the Grey Cup in Vancouver. He had us meet him at Granville Island and then took 4 "Stubble Jumpers" from the Prairies out on his boat. Lifting crab traps and catching salmon, pulling up prawn traps from 300' of depth when I felt my arms may fall off, and then eating fresh seafoood all the way back to port. Doug even made reservations for us 4 for dinner that night, not that we had any room to eat any more! His kindness will never be forgotten by this Regina boy. Rest in peace my friend. And for all those who love you, my sincere sympathies and prayers.

Fred and I have our boat in La Paz on the same dock and got to know Doug, Jennifer and the girls on a few of our trips there. We went to their boat for dinner and got to see a super family and a great dad and husband who truely loved life, his wife and his two fabulous girls....
We had an issue with our boat and guess who came right over to lend a hand and jumped right in to help...
We did not know him well but we are left with the sad thought that we will not get the opportunity to see him when we return to La Paz and develope what we both feel would have been a very rewarding friendship.....he seemed a "larger than life" guy who not only enjoyed his life but truely appreciated all that it held for him.
Fred and I will miss him and we both are thinking of you Jeniifer and your two little girls .

Dear birthday twin, No words can express the sadness in my heart. Doug loved you and the girls so much. His eyes lit up when any of 'his girls' walked in. Doug is probably fixing something for Enta, or flying her somewhere! Remember the good times and know that he will always be looking out for you. My love and prayers are with you and the girls. I was looking forward to getting to know Doug better and hear more of his great stories. I consider it a deep honor to have shared in his last moments together with his family. Sometimes it is not the amount of time that we have, but how we chose to spend that time. Love and strength to Jennifer, Jordanna and Vanessa.

Jennifer,
I was so saddened to receive your call. My heart goes out to you and the girls.
Doug was a good and generous friend for almost 20 years.
I'll never forget his smile, and especially his laugh.
There was nothing small about Doug. He lived life large all the time.

Fly To The Bluer Sky

Fly, fly high away, Doug,
Somewhere, under a bluer sky,
In a higher place where Eagles fly,
Play in the wind,
High above the clouds,
Where the sun and the stars shine bright.
Fly, fly far away Doug, to a bluer sky.

Go in Peace.

Dear Jordana, Sonya and I will remember your dad as a generous man of action. When the Grade One class pencil sharpener was broken, Doug showed up with a professional replacement which the children love using better than the old one. Jordana, you were so very proud to tell me it was Your Dad, and rightly so. "Thank you, Doug!" We will remember his big smile and generosity.

Sincerely, Judy, Evan, Sonya and Mila

I was only a little girl as Doug's neighbor (and Jason's) in Estevan but I will always have clear memories of his large personality and the hours he spent fixing my Dad's old cars. He was quite the guy. I am very sorry to learn of Doug's passing.

R.I.P. dear Doug! A bright light went out on Wednesday and there is a new star in the heavens. Thank you for showing me that everything is possible! I hear your laughter and saying "no problem we can do this" I didn't believe it when you said we could fit sink, taps, vanity, shower head, marble, and 50" tv in my convertible rent-a-car, but you did! Barbecue salmon and fresh caught crab & prawns will never be the same experience without your magic touch. You were the ultimate host! You will live on in our hearts...in Jason, Vanessa, and Jordana...and the many lives you so generously and enthusiastically touched! LOVE, Mor Mor ? ?

Doug, I can still picture you the day we first met, standing tall and handsome. You became a corporate client at Dolphin World Travel where you were to meet your future wife, my daughter. Thank you for all the memories you created and shared with many of my family and friends ... and especially the gift of my two grand-beauties, Vanessa, Jordana and Jason too. Charles and I have such great memories of our times with Doug (and Jennifer), and are grateful to have known such a 'renaissance' man in every sense. Whenever we were in town, Doug always made us feel so important and special; a fabulous boat ride, throwing down a few crab traps and have a BBQ on the boat of the salmon he caught, then home to a fabulous home cooked meal by Doug and a great martini! He was my idol when it came to thinking LARGE and he always knew that ANYTHING was possible and he consistently proved that to his family and to us. Our deepest condolences to Jennifer, Jordana, Vanessa, and Jason who thankfully all exhibit Doug's joie de vivre! Also condolences go out to the rest of Doug's family. He will be sorely missed, and his legacy and spirit will live on inside each and every one of us as a constant reminder of hope and possibility. Fly high, Doug; we love you always.

Dear Jennifer and family,

I join with so many others who knew Doug in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing. is passing you can celebrate the end of a long and productive life.

The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived.

May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.

In Sympathy, Theresia Sabyan
