Murphy, Eddie F. "Murph" 11/08/1926 ~ 04/20/2013 OCEANSIDE -- Edmund Francis Murphy, 86, died Saturday in his home in San Lus Rey Mobile Home Park. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Frank and Mary Murphy. Eddie married Doris Werthmuller on September 8, 1951, and they had two daughters, Patricia Ann (Myron) Hoertling of Sacramento, CA., and Nancy Jeanne (James) Bermingham of N. Merrick, NY. He later remarried his former wife, Alice Mae (Smith) Murphy on December 17, 1977. Eddie had three grandchildren, Jason (Mollie) Hoertling, Justin Hoertling, and Elizabeth Hoertling. Elizabeth is engaged to Jeremy Smith to be married on September 8, 2013. He was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Brown. He had a wonderful close friendship with Lee and Mona Kovensky. Eddie served in World War II in the U.S. Navy, specialized duty as a member of the Armed Guard which protected our merchant ships at sea. He was a volunteer fireman in the Wantagh, N.Y. Fire Dept 1960-1967. He retired as a photo engraver from the Graphic Communications International Union in 1986 after 30 years of service. Eddie was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Oceanside. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus whose chapter was located at Mission St. Luis Rey, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion and an active member of the Legion of Mary. His activities also included participating in Veterans Affairs, such as American Legion. He maintained relationships with former WWII Buddies, and was an avid Notre Dame and Giants Fan. At Eddie's request, a funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 27th, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Oceanside. Father Jim Fry will conduct the service. Following the service, there will be a Military ceremony at 2 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Oceanside.
