KENDRICK, Edward EDWARD STOREY KENDRICK Mr. Edward Storey Kendrick, age 83, of Sugar Valley, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday morning, February 12, 2008 at the home. Mr. Kendrick was born May 31, 1924 in Fulton County, Georgia, a son of the late Edward Storey and Louise Johnson Kendrick. Mr. Kendrick proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Army. He was wounded in the Pacific Theatre and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Kendrick graduated from Baylor College, under the GI bill in Waco, Texas in 1948 and received his Masters from Emory University in 1956. He than began his public servant career as a teacher in Fulton County, and later Director of Special Services in Marietta and Cobb County Public Schools. Mr. Kendrick was a Democrat, and former Senator of the 32nd District from 1963-1965. Senator Kendrick was very proud of his role as chairman of Senate Education Committee in the 1960's where under Governor Carl Sanders, he helped create a system of junior colleges, including Kennesaw State. Senator Kendrick was also instrumental in expanding vocational education in the state to meet the needs of industry to improve the lives of Georgians. Senator Kendrick was in the Senate "Class of 1962" which included Jimmy Carter and Zell Miller. Carl Sanders appointed Senator Kendrick to become Director of Probation of the Pardon and Parole Board which he served on for a number of years. Mr. Kendrick was also a member of First Presbyterian of Marietta where he was a deacon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel "Buddy" Kendrick. He survived by his loving wife of sixty one years, Anna Wiman Kendrick; Daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Kendrick and Richard Edwards of Marietta, GA; Sons, Daniel Kendrick, Gary Kendrick both of Sugar Valley, GA; David and daughter-in-law, Lori Kendrick, and youngest son, Randy Kendrick all of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Stacie and Vince Rogers, Josh Mero, Kayla Mero, Justin Kendrick, Andrew Kendrick and Elyse Kendrick; great-granddaughter, Bailee Mero. Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Edward S. Kendrick will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Calhoun Chapel of the Ponders Funeral Home with the Reverend Ted Smith, officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
