ELSA (ELSIE) BALDWIN
November 15, 1920 – January 23, 2015
Elsa Baldwin died peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 94 years. Elsa was born in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan on November 15, 1920 to Jules and Emolia (Molly) Geske. She married Bob Baldwin on October 10, 1937-a marriage which lasted 66 years until Bob's death in 2004. Elsa was also predeceased by her two sisters and their husbands: Addie (Gordon) Summerfeldt and Marguerite (Freddie) Reinke. Elsa, the youngest of three sisters, grew up in Bengough, SK and after marrying Bob, moved to the Fertile/Antler/Redvers District in South East SK. She was a devoted wife who supported Bob in his many businesses while actively volunteering in church and community activities. Over the years she played a crucial role assisting Bob's thriving auction business in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. During the off- season, Elsa and Bob escaped to their winter home in Mesa, Arizona where they hosted many visitors. Elsa was a generous and congenial woman who loved entertaining friends and family. She was a dedicated mother and a spirited, fun loving, proud grandmother. She enjoyed baking and giving away cookies, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and keeping up on world events. Her passion for interior decoration and fashion remained evident until her death. She was adored by her entire family. She will be forever remembered by son Dr Hal (Donna) Baldwin (Nanaimo); and daughter Janet (Allan) McKenzie (Calgary); six grandchildren Shawn (Anita) McKenzie, Doug (Aisha) Sherwood, Dr Leanna (Sean Green) McKenzie, Ryan Baldwin, Alisa (Dylan McKinnon) Baldwin, Heather (Geoff) Kearney and seven great-grandchildren Benjamin, Lucas and Charlotte Green, Rhea and Sonia McKenzie, Campbell McKinnon and Aivan Kearney. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Staywell Manor Village in Calgary and the Prairie Spring Care Home in Saskatoon, her previous residence. We are also thankful for the exceptional care she received by the nursing staff on unit 8400 and the Palliative Care Team at Rockyview hospital. Personal remembrances may be sent to the family at [email protected]. A Family Gathering in honour of Elsa will be held in Saskatoon at a later date.
