Eugene D. Dalzotto

Dalzotto, Eugene D. Died on September 4, 2009 at North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji, Minn. A private interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji. Arrangements are entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minn. Eugene Donald Dalzotto was born on March 11, 1925, in Benld, Illinois, to Anthony and Amelia (Mariz) Dalzotto. Gene earned a BA degree in art in 1949 at Indiana University. In 1954, he graduated with an MFA from the University of Iowa in art history and printmaking where he studied under Mauricio Lasansky. In addition, Gene pursued graduate study with famed sculptor Ossip Zadkine at the Ecole D'art Modern in Paris and in the history of printmaking at the University of Leiden, Holland, where he studied as a Fulbright scholar. Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in the United States and in Europe. He reached the rank of Corporal and was awarded with the WWII Victory Medal and the EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Service Stars for service in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Gene taught his entire career at Bemidji State University from 1958 to 1984.
