Retired miner Mr Fred Renshaw (83), a resident of Ravensworth Care Home, Duckmanton, and formerly of Ashgate, Sutton, was cremated at Mansfield after a service at the crematorium chapel.
Born at Skegby, life-long local resident Mr Renshaw was educated at the village's St Andrew's C of E School, after which he worked for two years in the lace industry. In 1941 he went to Silverhill Colliery, being employed underground for 40 years before retiring in 1981.
His interests included following local football teams and boxing, and he was also a keen gardener having allotments throughout his life. After he retired he and his late wife, Minnie, enjoyed holidays with family and friends in the UK and abroad.
Mr Renshaw, who died at the Royal Hospital, Calow, Chesterfield, leaves his son, Fred Jnr, two daughters, Christine and Ann, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The service was conducted by Mrs S. Oscroft, and arrangements were by K. Gregory & Sons Ltd.
