Felix Bosco Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 18 to Sep. 19, 2023.
Bosco, Felix J. "Phil"
Bay City, Michigan
Felix John "Phil" Bosco, age 82, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Monday morning, September 18, 2023. The son of the late John and Frances (Lupo) Bosco, he was born on November 1, 1940 in Bay City. From the age of six until 1989, Phil worked part time for the family business, Bosco Fruit Wholesale produce Co. Phil graduated from St. Joseph High School, attended Bay City Junior College and earned a Bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University. He went on to pursue doctoral studies at Michigan State University. He taught mathematics for 35 years in Saginaw Public Schools, starting at Saginaw Central Junior High and then at Arthur Hill High School until his retirement in 1999. Phil remained active with Bay Area Retired School Personnel for many additional years.
In 1989, Phil was united in marriage to Cindy Kathryn Law and she survives his passing along with his son, Joel (Sheila Minnick) Bosco of Farmington Hills; his five grandchildren, Craig Bosco, Julia Bosco, Magda Bosco, Cade Bosco and Joseph Crandall; his sister, Rosalie Walsh; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Mariann) Plarske, Daniel Law, Jerry (Jean) Law, Mary (Ken) Laarman and David Branham; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Phil was also preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Ann (Plarske) Bosco; his two brothers, Tony (Valerie) Bosco and Matt (Betty) Bosco; and brothers and sisters-in-law, George Walsh, Karyl Branham, Peggy (Paul) Begick and Robert Plarske.
Phil was a longtime member of All Saints Parish – Church of St. Boniface, including multiple years as sacristan. He was also active with charismatic Christian communities, both locally and in Lansing, MI. Throughout the last year of his life, his men's group from Saginaw City of God continued to meet regularly at his home to read Scripture and pray the Rosary with him.
Phil was an avid collector of vintage MG automobiles and was a member of the West Michigan Old Speckled Hen MG Car Club. He and Cindy traveled to many MG gatherings throughout the United States, which led to a few interesting mechanical breakdowns, something that gave Phil an enjoyable challenge.
Throughout the latter part of 2008, Phil benefited from medical advancements at Cleveland Clinic, first from the placement of an LVAD (heart pump) and a few months later, a heart transplant. From this experience, he and Cindy founded Bosco LVAD Vests, which enable LVAD patients to return to an active lifestyle.
Phil loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He embodied the best qualities of Christian life: generous hospitality and care for those in need, whether it was dinner and cards, providing someone a place to live, or caring for elderly relatives in his home. He was "slow to anger," with a gentle yet indomitable spirit, and humility combined with unshakeable dignity in the face of failing health. He was a stalwart friend, who always valued people over material things.
The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at All Saints Parish – Church of St. Boniface with Fr. Jose Cabrera presiding. The Rite of Committal with entombment will take place at Floral Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be at Trahan Funeral Chapel on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Right to Life of Michigan or to Cleveland Clinic's Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. The Larson/Keating family is so profoundly blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know Phil through his adventures in heart care. We will always remember Phil for his gentleness and sincere love and care. Even through the experience of receiving care, Phil somehow modeled caring for others! He was such a warm and tender presence, especially with Louise and our young kids.

We are unfortunately away for his funeral or would definitely be there to show our love and appreciation. Our prayers are with you Cindy, and we can all look forward to having coffee and biscotti with Phil and Louise in Heaven. (There´s definitely a loud corner of Heaven for chatty Italians)! Lots of love from all of us!

Thank you for the warm memories of opening your home and clearing the MGs from your garage so we could party there. We remember Phil for his great smile and the many years of joy and warmth he brought to our MG Car Club. May he eternally rest in peace as our sadness at his passing turns to fond memories. God bless you, Cindy.
