Floyd Ellis Chandler, affectionately known as Peter by all who has known and loved him, was born unto the union of the Reverend Jeff and Elnora (nee Robinson) Chandler on November 11, 1945 in Joiner, Arkansas.
Peter accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Robert L. Dorris at Prayer Tower COGIC in Lockport, Illinois. Peter graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1965. Peter enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. He later served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he worked for US Steel, Silver Cross Hospital as a Healthcare Assistant, Stateville Correctional Center as a Med-Tech, Northern Illinois Gas, and later became a Field Operations Tech for Amoco Pipelines.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Jeff Chandler and Elnora Chandler, one son Darryl C. Chandler, brothers: William Chandler and Richard Chandler, sisters: Lena Mae Alexander, Patricia Ann Dillard, and Coretta Coleman, one niece: Kimberly D. Edmons, and two nephews: Nathaniel Chandler and Scott Chandler.
He leaves to cherish his memories son: Terrence (Veronica) Smallwood of Houston, TX, daughters: Nina Smallwood of Denver, CO, and Brandi Chandler of Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren: Victoria (Andrea) Kimmins of Springfield, MO, Kayla (Corbin) Mickens of Houston, TX, Levi Malik Lopez of Denver, CO, Terrica Smallwood of Houston, TX, Tamisha Mason of Houston, TX, and Karisha (Toddric) Rack of Houston, TX and 7 Great-grandchildren; his siblings: Ernestine (Billy Sr.) Hamilton of Lockport, IL, Jeff (Janice) Chandler of Austin, TX, Ruth Ann Chandler of Joliet, IL, Alfred (Carol) Chandler of San Antonio, TX, Reverend Dr. Janette Kotey of Huntsville, AL, and Denise (Bishop Leroy) Lane of Benton Harbor, MI. Survived by special cousins Leroy "Penie" Chandler and Royce Chandler both of Joliet, IL and former spouse, Sharon (Kennedy) Millsap of Griffin, GA and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Prayer Tower Ministries COGIC, 500 Stryker Ave, Joliet, IL. Service at 11:00 AM, Bishop Warren C. Dorris, Jr., officiating. Interment following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
