I was at Kingswood School with George Brown when he was Senior Prefect and I was a "small boy". A few years later I took a scholarship exam at Magdalen where George was installed as President of the JCR in his final year and he was kind enough to invite me to his rooms for coffee one evening during my short stay in college. By the time I came up, also to read chemistry under the late Leslie Sutton, he had of course progressed to Eton but we did meet by chance many years later at a Magdalen Garden Party and were able to swap a number of anecdotes of years long past. My abiding memory is of his warmth and kindness that time in his rooms where he briefed me on much college history and what I might expect if accepted as suitable material for entry by the Fellows.
