Dr. George Albert Robinson, 85, Topeka, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born Oct. 16, 1918, at Olathe, the son of Jay Albert and Emmatine Shephard Robinson. George served in the Army from January 1942 until December 1945. He was a high speed radio operator. His major tour of service was in the South Pacific and he was attached to the Army Air Corp. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1939 at Nevada, Mo. He later graduated from Kansas State College in 1949 with a bachelor of science in agriculture. He received a master of science at Kansas State College of Agriculture of Applied Science in 1957. In 1963 and 1964 he attended the University of Maryland. He was chosen as one of four nationally who were awarded a fellowship to prepare for state work in vocational agriculture administration. He later he attended Cornell University in Ithica, N.Y., and received in doctorate in education in vocational a griculture. He taught at a one-room school in Nevada in 1941, was a vocational agriculture teacher at Seaman High School from 1949 until 1952, at Piedmont in 1952 and 1953 and at Altoona High School from 1953 to 1954. He taught in Grinnell, Iowa, from 1954 until 1963, and in Paola from 1965 to 1966. He did a grant project for K-State at Concordia High School, and was vocational teacher educator at Washington State University from 1974 until 1977. He retired from the state of Kansas in the early 1980s. He returned to Topeka in 1977. He was a charter member of Shawnee County Master Gardeners, a 30-year member of West Side Baptist Church and he was a member of the Kansas and National camper associations. He was preceded in death by his father, Jay Albert Robinson; his mother, Emmatine Shephard Robinson; his step-mother, Mildred Gilbert Robinson; his brother, Loren Thiry; and his sister, Ida Faye Robinson Bastow. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Robinson; Randy Robinson, Manh attan, Ron Robinson and his wife, Terri, Omaha, Neb., Gary Robinson and his wife, Joy, Topeka, Greg Robinson and his wife, Erin, Albuquerque, N. M., and Dan Robinson and his wife, Lorri, Gilbert, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; his sister, Marie Kemp, Kansas City, Mo.; and his sisters-in-law, Diane Hansen, Shawnee Mission, and Donna Pfeffer, Las Vegas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at West Side Baptist Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. Dr. Robinson will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Side Baptist Church, 1008 S.W. 4th St., Topeka, 66606
