Gertrude Marold Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 17, 2016.
MAROLD Gertrude Ceeckler Marold - age 101- passed away on Friday July 8 after a short illness. She was born in Harrison NJ on March 19, 1915 to Gertrude Haller and William Ceeckler and grew up in Harrison NJ, graduating from Benedictine Academy, where she was vice president of her class. She took bookkeeping and accounting courses following graduation and practiced as a bookkeeper for many years. During World War II, Gert volunteered for the Red Cross and served as an ambulance driver, shuttling pilots between Newark and New York City. In 1938, she married William Marold and together they raised 3 children in Upper Montclair NJ. She was a devout Catholic, who was very active in St. Cassian Catholic Church where she loved to help whenever she could. She was a certified Braillist volunteering with the Red Cross in East Orange and Catholic Charities in Newark, New Jersey. Following Bill's retirement as a banker, they moved from Montclair to spend 6 months in Spring Lake, NJ and 6 months in Naples FL. Gert was very active in both St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Spring Lake and St. William's in Naples participating as a Eucharistic Minister and a Rosary Maker in both parishes. The love of her life Bill passed away in 2000 after a long illness and although Gert sorely missed him she continued to live life, traveling between FL and NJ and serving as an inspiration to us all. Gert was an avid golfer and bridge player. She played Golf until the age of 90. At 97, she moved to Carriage Club in Jacksonville to be closer to her daughter. She continued to play Bridge winning the year long Bridge Marathon competition with her partner at the age of 99. Gert was blessed with a sharp mind up until her death. She was known for her very positive attitude on life and was an inspiration to many. She dearly loved her family -children, grandchildren and great grandchildren - all of whom attended her wonderful 100th birthday celebration in Jacksonville. She will be missed by all. She is survived by her Sons James (Nina) and Robert (Pat) and by her daughter Kathleen (Joseph), 7 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Catherine's Church in Spring Lake NJ, followed by internment at St. Catherine's Cemetery to join her husband. I was blessed beyond words when I met Gert. She shared her memories, stories, laughter and grace! Dinner with Gert, Leigh, Vivian, Bonnie, and Mr. and Mrs. Egan was a Sunday staple in my life and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Although a great lady has been silenced, her memory and legacy will forever live on in my heart. Thank you Gert for enriching my life the way you did. You'll be forever missed, but NEVER forgotten . Rest well my friend until we meet again...

Gert was a warm and caring person. She loved her family and beamed when she would talk about them. I enjoyed the time I spent with her. I send my deepest sympathy to the family.

Gert left us while I was visiting my family in Denmark. She wished me good journey when I spoke with her June 26.I wished her the same. We both knew we were saying GoodBye. She was my neighbor upstairs but most of all we were good friends. I miss her dearly. I told her I would.I told her I loved her.

Gert was such a blessing to me even though I only knew a little while. Her wit, warmth, kindness, and interesting conversation went a long way in creating that blessing I felt from knowing her. Even though we only knew each other a short while she is someone I won't forget. Blessings to all of her family.
I will miss her a lot.
