Gertrude was born March 31, 1917, in Hohnberg, Germany, to the late John Henry Luett and Minna (Henrich) Luett. She came to the United States in 1923, where she lived in Avoca, Iowa, Walnut, Iowa, Oakland, Iowa and Hancock, Iowa. Gertrude graduated from Hancock High School in 1935; attended Simpson College and UNO. She married Stanley G. Thomas on June 3, 1941. They were blessed with two sons, Ronald and Jon. Gertrude was a 4th grade teacher for 4 years at the Hancock School and 10 years at the Treynor School, retiring in 1970. Gertrude was an active member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church; was a former Sunday school teacher; member of the United Methodist Women's Association; Farm Bureau and was active in 4-H.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley G. Thomas, in 2001; and sister, Alma Luett Braden.
Gertrude is survived by her sons, Ronald E. (Norma) Thomas, of Council Bluffs, Jon F. (Ann) Thomas, of Eugene, Ore.; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the mortuary with Rev. Brody Tubaugh officiating. Interment Hardin Township Cemetery with a lunch following at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

Gertrude and my mother were best of friends, high school buds; next-door neighbors after marriage; she and Stanley always fun to be around; and she will always hold a special place in my heart and memories - many many great ones! You will be missed.
