Gordon Franklin Snider

Gordon Snider peacefully passed away in his sleep on February 6th, 2018, just a week after celebrating his 95th birthday, and a year to the day after the stroke which so damaged his memory.
Gordon was born near New Dundee, ON. He served in the RCAF during WW II, and subsequently worked for the National Research Council, reverse-engineering captured aircraft engines. When he returned to civilian life, he and Evelyn moved to Barrie, Ontario, where Gordon was in charge of Plant Maintenance at Lakeview Dairy. In 1968, Gordon and Evelyn, and 2 teenagers made the trek west to Victoria in the modern version of a covered wagon – a tent trailer behind a giant Oldsmobile. Gordon worked for BC Hydro for 19 years, most recently as a Production Technician at the Gas Plant.
A neighbour said "I will remember him as a shining example of how to live well: always cheerful, ready to have a joke and a laugh, warm, considerate, and generous. He was an inspiration to me in how he stayed curious and interested in learning new things and keeping busy with useful work." Gordon was always ready to try new things – taking up cycling again when he turned 80. He got his first computer at 77 and was a MS Flight Simulator ace!
Gordon is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Eileen Snider, son, John R.G. Snider, as well as siblings Ruth (Willard), Eunice, and Russel. He leaves behind daughter Linda (Arnold Adlkirchner) and daughter-in-law, Betty Anderson, stepgrandsons Troy Watts and Kyle Watts and their families, and siblings Clare (Beulah), Eva (Vernon), Jeannette (Orval), and James (Dianne).
