I know this is very late but I just heard of the news just Sunday, my thoughts and prayers are with the whole Welch family, I knew Greg and his father Buster from a guy that I used to date that worked for them both. Greg was a very fun and loving guy and very well liked in the community. I just wish that I had known of this before now.

The last time I saw Greg was at Myrle Fletcher Welch's funeral. That guy had me laughing so hard I thought I would cry, except that of course, I had been all day - it was the worst day of my life. My grandfather was a great man - and so was Greg Welch. I wish I had paid more attention - and spent more time with him when I had the opportunity.

I uploaded a photo I found on the internet (separately from my guest book entry) - and he was, as always, smiling big.

I will miss that guy!

Two years ago...my dad, Price Mclauchlin, passed away during the Summer Spectacular. Greg called numerous times to check on me and my family. I reassured him that he needed to take care of business and that I didn't want or expect him to come to the funeral. I knew he cared and that his prayers were with us. I looked up the day of my dad's funeral...there stood Greg, boots, spurs and all. I asked him what on earth he was doing there, because I knew he had horses and customers showing in Ft. Worth...he said that he was at Will Rogers when "all at once the cutting didn't seem that important...when he had a friend who needed him" Greg was that friend to so many people. My whole family will miss him so much!I will miss his friendship, his pranks, and his harrasment....he paid a friend's child a dollar to come up and call me grandma at the concession stand....way before I was old enough to be one. There isn't anyone who truly knew him who does not have similar tales to remember. Greg undoubtedly left his mark in the cutting horse business...but he left an

even greater impact as a friend to so many. I mourn his loss..but I hope to never forget his legacy as a friend. What wonderful memories he leaves us all! He touched many lives. I can't think of any better way to be remembered. I know Greg is at peace....I pray that his family finds peace as well. Donna Fanning

Many years ago, my father rode with Buster Welch and Ms. Sheila on their ranch one day. He always remembered what a wonderful time he had and how nice the Welch's were to him and my mom. My dad passed away, but I still remember the stories he told. May you always remember the good times and great horses Greg was involved with. He was a tribute to his family and his friends. He will be missed by all in the cutting horse industry. Condolences to his family and friends.

To the Welch family. I learned of Greg's illness just a few days before leaving on a vacation trip to Georgia. I regret that I thus was unable to attend the funeral. I pray that God will give you the grace to endure the heartache you must feel over having Greg die at such a young age, with the assurance that it's not so long, but "We'll meet you in the morning." It has been a pleasure to chronicle the exploits of the Welch family in Quarter Horse News since August 1984. I appreciate the quality of character displayed by members of the family. Greg made my job easier, first through great horsemanship aboard outstanding horses in the cutting pen. Second, he always came up with something to describe a horse or situation in a manner that set a particular shining moment apart from other previous accomplishments. Greg Welch may be gone from the cutting arena, but there are countless kids whose love for the sport of cutting and their ability to ride a horse has increased through his efforts. Thus, he left a huge piece of himself with us.

Dear Ruth Ann,

I’ve been reported by Frank about the very sad news on your brother sudden passing away. Please accept my sincere condolences for the whole family from Spain. I believe that we must leave to God what we cannot understand. Certainly it is difficult. It is also my believe that those who leave us with nice memories are in the best possible place and we’ll reunite sometime in the future. I’m sure your brother is there. My prays are with you and your family.

I look forward meeting you soon so you can teach me, one in all, how to understand the Texan accent. Please convey my warmest regards for the girls and rest of the family.

Very truly yours

There are so few words to express the sadness I personally feel over the loss of Greg in our world. He was forever kind, helpful, warm, and smiling, sending his charm straight to you. We were having a cutting in Wilton, CA when we heard about Greg's illness. It was awesome as a minister, to see the family of cutters gather together in prayer and faith each morning before the open, to interceed and stand for a brother in Christ and his family, that lived several thousand miles away, who were facing a major trial. Greg's life not only impacted the cutting industry but obviously moved the hearts of the people in the cutting pen.

I was honored when Greg showed up at cowboy church at the shows on the West Coast where I was ministering. He was not ashamed of what he believed and the Savior he served. As he now stands before His Lord and Savior in Glory, I know that his desire would be that all cutters would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

I pray that the unity and love that I saw take place in the cutting arena that week as we prayed for Greg will continue in the family of cutters in Greg honor and memory. Let's not wait until a trial comes to one of our own, but love and pray for one another daily.

May God bless you and fill you all with His peace that surpasses all understanding during this time of grief.

In the passing of Greg Welch..

When I have gone, remember I'm with Jesus; Then do not grieve because I've passed away; Life holds so many griefs and disappointments, And will you weep because I did not stay? 'Tis only for a spell we must be parted- Not many years to us on earth are given; And when my Saviour tells me you are coming, I'll go with Him, and welcome you to heaven. Greive not because the eyes that looked upon you Shall never see your face on earth again;Rejoice because they look upon the Saviour, Who gave His life to ransom sinful men. Weep not because I walk no longer with you; Remember I am walking streets of gold. Weep for yourselves, that you awhile must tarry Before the blessed Lord you may behold.

In a creative tribute to a wonderful man, hundreds of Greg's family and friends joined together yesterday for his final services. With the opening film clips of special performances in the arena, one was almost drawn back to those places where he competed and won. The outpouring of emotion was staggering. Perhaps his greatest impact was on the children that he coached and nurtured. I was grateful for his easy acceptance of me into his extended family. And he leaves behind two wonderful very special people in Pax and Lance. They were the stalwarts for their grieving family and friends. His legacy will live on beyond our present memory through the generations of cutters to follow. God has blessed him and us for his presence in our lives.
