PERRY- HOUSER BACON GILBERT, 91, son of NWH and Mamie Edwards Gilbert , a lifelong resident of Houston Co , Owner and operator of Gilbert Farms for 51 years where he raised cattle and grew peaches, died on Monday, May 6, 2002. A graduate of Mercer University, he was an original member of the Perry Houston Co. Hospital Authority, member of the Perry Kiwanis Club, Past President of the Peach Belt Insurance Co., member of the AARP where he served as a tax aide for years, a member and Past President of the Houston County Farm Bureau, and Past Director of the Central Georgia Production Credit for 28 years. A member of the Perry United Methodist Church, he was a past Trustee, served on the Administrative Board, and was Sunday School Treasurer for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Leech Gilbert; a sister, Sara Tabor of Perry; a sister in law, Jean M. Gilbert of Perry; a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, Houser W. Gilbert; two brothers, Robert W. Gilbert, Sr., Nathan W. Gilbert; two sisters, Margaret Morgan and Mamie G. Muse.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Perry United Methodist Church with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Watson–Hunt Funeral Home, from 6:30 PM – 8 PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2002.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perry United Methodist Church or the Perry Houston Co. Hospital. Those who wish may sign the guestbook online at watsonhunt.com.

Alice -

During the 22 years I taught the Men's Bible Class, Houser served as Sunday School treasurer much of that time. In spite of the fact that he had to actually miss the class to take care of his responsibilities as treasurer, he would always have a word of encouragement for me. What an inspiration he has been to so many people. I will miss him at Sunday School and at Kiwanis.

Just wanted to tell the family that I am sorry for the loss. They are in my prayers. Mr. Gilbert always brought a smile to my face when he came into the office. He will be greatly missed.
