Ida Duncan Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 1, 2012.
December 23, 1920 - April 26, 2012 Ida Eileen Duncan (nee Steele) passed away on April 26, in her 92nd year at St. Jude's Anglican Home. She is predeceased by her husband, Ian, survived by only child, son Bill, daughter-in-law Jane McEwen, beloved granddaughters Jenny and Claire, and honorary granddaughter Meredith Bodell. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ida was active in the United Church, especially youth groups and choir. She married Ian in 1947. As an Air Force wife she lived in a number of locations in Canada and stayed active in church choirs and other groups. The family moved to Vancouver in 1970. Ida joined the St Stephen's United Church choir and also volunteered at the Grace Hospital auxiliary. After retirement, she and Ian had many good trips to Europe. By that time, both granddaughters were in the picture and they became a new focus in her life. Thereafter she became known to all, including Jenny and Claire's friends, as Granny. After Ian's death in 2006, she stayed active in her home until about six month ago when she moved into St. Jude's. She was well cared for earlier by Dr Ngui and the staff at Pacific Spirit Health Unit and then later by Dr. Hatlelid and the staff at St Jude's. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Women's Hospital Foundation, Obstetrics, in memory of Ida Duncan. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 4, at St Stephen's United Church, 7025 Granville Street, Vancouver. A wonderful mother, granny, and person, she will be missed.
