In memory of Dr James Bynon

I am so sorry to read this news about Jim, and my thoughts are with his wife.

It must have been 1964 when I first met him in Imilchil while he was collecting his material on the Ayt Hadiddu, and I on Imazighen culture especially the architecture.

I hope more of his research will be published including his 16mm film, to which I would be glad to contribute.

My only interaction with Dr. Bynon was when, in 1970, he sold me the Forward Control Land Rover which he had equipped as a caravan in order to study the Berber language for a year in the Atlas Mountains.
His dry wit and laconic assessment of both the vehicle and his research made such an impression on me that I continue to smile whenever I think back to that distant day.
(I subsequently drove the vehicle to India and back)
My condolences to his family.
