I have only just heard: sincere condolences to Pat and all the family. I only had the pleasure of meeting Jim on two or three occasions but will always have fond memories.

Professor Jim Coveney with his wife Pat was a most generous host on many occasions when I visited as a friend of their son Peter, in Bath in the 1970s. Good food, good conversation and good humour were always supplied - as they were when I visited with my wife in later years. I have very happy memories of a very fine man.

I had the great pleasure to be one of Jim's colleagues at Bath (he appointed me to my first academic post) and to be a collaborator with him on two book publications. My career would not have developed in the way it did without the excellent start Jim gave me and without his encouragement and wise advice. My wife, Jane, and I offer our sincere condolences to Pat and family.
